What have you done to be greener this week?
The usual: hung up clothes to dry, kept thermostats up, use homemade cleaners, bought local organic produce from little store down the street.
Also: Repurposed a few things after moving last week and getting organized. Donated Teflon pan to thrift store. Bought a metal basket for eggs at thrift store for 40 cents. Finding recycling drop off and checking out Farmers' Market tomorrow. Still working on getting rid of plastic that touches food.
Re: What have you done to be greener this week?
I've been grouping as many errands as possible to save on having to drive so much, bought in bulk to cut down on packaging, bought the green brand of toliet cleaner - we have weird water issues here and cleaners are a must - but I had no desire to buy the bottles with the giant health warnings or the word bleach on them.
Oh and today I had a big pink stain on my kitchen counter (pretty sure it was from pink lemonaide mix dh drinks at work) and my first thought was "guess I'll get a magic eraser" and then the light bulb went off and I got out the baking soda and made a paste and scrubbed like crazy and the counter is good as new. Yay!

There is no recycling pick up (or trash pick up) where we live, and we have to take it to the parks & rec building where they have a garbage truck once a week. When we first moved into our house, DH and I were creating about 3-5 bags of garbage a week. EW! Then, we started taking in cans/bottles that have deposits (we are in NY) to get our refund. That cut us down to 2-3 bags of garbage a week, and we save a little money too.
But as for THIS week:
A friend was going to throw away a laundry sorter much like this one http://www.walmart.com/ip/Whitmor-PVC-Triple-Mesh-Sorter-With-Wheels/10574535?adid=77777777913300000049&wmlspartner=PSGooglePLA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=10574535
because one of the bags ripped. I gladly took it from her, and stitched up the ripped bag. Then, I repurposed the whole thing into a recycling center
The three bags makes it super easy to separate plastic, cans, and glass and since they are removable, it makes it even easier to take it all in! We have a separate can for all the deposit items, so we don't have to sort it all out when they get full either.
This should hopefully cut us down to 1-2 bags of garbage a week!!
What I'm getting ready to do to be green:
-A friend is giving us the composter that essentially came with her new house (she does not want it !!! ) This should help on A LOT of the garbage!
-Some sort of repurposed container for paper recycling
-Getting ready to banish paper towels in favor of normal cloth towels. We use them for everything, and we really need to stop this habit!!
