Updating Passport Question

I need to update my passport, as it is still in my maiden name.

Does anyone know if they will accept a noterized copy of my marriage certificate, or do they need the original?  The website wasn't real clear.

Re: Updating Passport Question

  • "An original or certified copy of your marriage certificate or the government-issued document evidencing your legal name change under federal or state law."

    It's right on their website.

ehh i get it saves money but if your only other id has a different name i would be freaked out if something happened in a foreign country

yeah, i'm okay with taking that chance, it doesn't bother me.  i can't think of many scenarios when i'll need id other than a passport

what if you lost the passport or it was stolen?

  • FWIW, when we flew to Cayman last year, we had to provide both passport AND state/government issued IDs and BOTH had to match our names on our airline tickets.

that's good to know, i'm wondering what they would do if you don't have another form of id . . . .

On the flip side, at least you'd be SOL in a nice vacation spot (maybe a beautiful beach!)
