Where are you going in NL?  For how long?

I know you're now looking forward to the trip for various reasons, but it is beautiful and I'm quite jealous since I haven't been home in non-winter for 4 years.

Re: ::Ringy::

  • I'll be arriving in Deer Lake on Sunday afternoon, visiting the hospital in Corner Brook on Monday, Grand Falls on Tuesday and Gander on Wednesday. Then I'll be flying out of Gander on Thursday morning.

    I'll have the whole afternoon to myself on Sunday but the rest of the time will be work and transit. Do you know Deer Lake at all?

  • I was hoping you were going to say St John's because it really is a great city.  I grew up around there, so I'm not as familiar with west or central NL.  Are you going to have a car?  Will you be staying in Deer Lake or Corner Brook?  Deer Lake is really tiny but Corner Brook is one of the biggest towns on the island (which, granted, isn't saying a whole lot!) so you could probably just wander around for the afternoon.  I can't say that I know either to give any recommendations though.  Only thing I can say, is if you like nature and have a car, Gros Morne National Park is close by, and it looks like there's a festival starting this weekend.

    If you want to do some "background" reading on Gander and their people, check out The Day the World Came to Town.  It's a quick read about what happened there on 9/11, and makes me proud to be a Newfie.

  • I haven't read that particular book but I have read up about Gander and 9/11 and it's quite an amazing story Smile I love Newfies. You should be proud!

    Given how slow I am these days, I think I will just take a little time to wander around but mostly rest up for the next few days. I'm not sure the exact arrangements but I have a contact there who's taking care of most of the travel arrangements for me.

    Don't get me wrong, I've heard lots of great things about how beautiful it is and under any circumstances, I'd really be looking forward to it... it's just that right now I'm not in the best physical state to travel, ya know?

    Maybe I'll get V some screech for his birthday Wink

  • Totally understandable.  You'll see plenty in transit anyways.  Just relax, and try to have some local cuisine - I'm sure you can find a good Jiggs dinner somewhere, a traditional Sunday meal.  And you definitely have to bring him back some screech!  Thankfully, you'll be off the hook because of your bump!
