Mattress - Firm or Soft?

Settle an important marital debate.

Re: Mattress - Firm or Soft?

  • Firm. I used to think I didn't care, but when you compare our current bed to our guest bed (which was my bed at my apt before I moved in with DH) OMG that guest bed is ridiculously soft!! I'm not sure I could sleep on it now. Right now we have a firm mattress (non-pillow top) with a memory foam topper and we love it.

(PS: Firm, not extra firm like LO's crib mattress. Holy crap that thing is like concrete!)

I prefer a softer mattress but nothing too soft.  I feel like I often wake up sore if I sleep on a really firm mattress.

  • Pretty firm, but not hard.
  • We have firm but we both regret it.

  • We have a sleep number so honestly for me it varies on how my back is but 9 times out of 10, firm.

  • FTR - we have a really firm one that we bought b/c our old one was tooo soft.  So. .. now we have a super firm one, but then we put 2 memory foam toppers on it and now for me, it too soft.  Ugh

    Ditto.

  • Firm w/ a pillow top or feather bed.

  • Cushion firm. Its firm, but a bit softer on top.

I just bought a new mattress this past Monday (it's coming right after we get back from vacation and I can't wait!), so beds are on my mind. I like the reasoning that you should get a firm mattress b/c you can always soften it up (with a pillowtop or cushiony mattress pad), but you really can't make a mattress more firm.

  • Firm but not really hard.

  • we both would have sworn to firm...until we started trying them out and realized we didn't like firm...we didn't like the super soft ones but we were pretty middle of the line...

    I still say firm

  • Good support underneath but a plush, soft top.
