Living in Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater?

Hi ladies, I don't normally post here.  My husband and I have JUST started talking about the possibility of moving to FL sometime in the next 1-2 years.  I lived in Miami for a few years and have been dying to move back to FL since the day I left.

Tell me what it's like to live on the west coast.  We are interested in the Tampa metro area because my husband is looking at Stetson's grad program.  Late 20s/early 30s, no kids, big dog, we like both outdoor and cultural activities.  I want the pros and cons, and anything you have to share.

 Thanks in advance :)

Re: Living in Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater?

  • I love, love, love it here. I don't love Tampa per say (mainly the traffic!) but I love the Pinellas county area. Super dog friendly (we often bring our pups to dinner/bars/etc) , tons of small towns line the coast, baseball, football, beaches and lots of neat beer places. :) Those are my main interests. I'm in the Clearwater/Dunedin area.

I visited Miami before and while I enjoyed it ... I still preferred home. :)

  • Hi there,

I love living in Tampa.  We live outside of Carrollwood which is considered the beginning of north Tampa.  I also love the Westchase area.

I lived in Miami for 18 years and I absolutely love Tampa.  The people here are very friendly (comparatively) and if you like cultural and outdoor activities there is a great mix of both in the area.  We have tons of museums (art, holocaust, history), and we have outdoor activities like Weedon Island (kayaking etc) and of course the beaches.

I also lived in Pinellas county for a bit when my husband was at Stetson and personally I like Hillsborough better -- there is just more diversity and I feel like more things to do overall, but you have access to all the other areas as well.

    Good luck on your move!

  • Thanks for your replies! We are going down there next week, and hope to start getting a feel for different areas.
