2 very important questions

1. Recommend some really good hose. I know not everyone wears hose these days, but I do when I get dolled up. I need a good pair for next weekend.

2. I never paid attention to the dress preservation posts because I cut up my wedding dress. Well now my dress has become the girls' baptism dresses and I want to get them cleaned and preserved after the baptism. I'd like to have some recommendations for where to take them. Bonus points if it's near St. Louis Park.

Thanks!

Re: 2 very important questions

  • 1. You got me....

    2. http://www.weddinggowncarespecialist.com/ Karen did a fantastic job cleaning my wedding dress (~2 years after my wedding). I was very happy with the results!

  • Can I jump in and ask where/how you did the wedding dress to baptism gown transformation? And pics, maybe?? I'm planning on doing the same for a baptism outfit for my baby boy, we have the pattern and my mom's going to make it. (I'm hoping she gets cracking...he's due in a month and baptism shortly after!!) But I haven't seen this concept actually come to fruition, so I'm interested to see what others have done! Interested in sharing?

And otherwise, I have no hose or cleaner suggestions, I rarely wear hose and never had my dress cleaned. Sorry! :(

This is who we used too. I believe there is a 10% of coupon on the website.

I believe Spanx makes nylons- maybe try those.

My mom made them. Just finished them this weekend. We just took a basic baptism dress pattern and she made them to my specifications. We're really pleased with the results. Big Smile

  • So CUTE!  They're going to look so adorable in those!  They'd look adorable in anything, but they'll look especially adorable in those dresses :)
  • I wear a fair amount of hose (although in the winter I wear Hue tights, even with suits generally, and yes, even to court), and I always come back to Leggs.  I like both the silken mist ones and the sheer energy.  Target carries less of them than in the past, so I usually buy them at Walgreens.

Also, the best way to preserve a garment is to clean it and then either hang it on a padded hanger covered by cotton sheeting or lay flat in acid free tissue.  If you must fold it, re-fold it at least yearly in a different position to avoid permanent creases and weakening of the garment at the creases.  Do not get anything air-tight and totally sealed.  It will ruin the dress over time because it actually can cause mildewing and mold.

  • I like spanx and the assets brand (knockoff spanx) at Target

  • I also recommend Wedding Gown Care Specialists in New Hope.  Karen did a wonderful job on my dress.
  • I used Wedding Gown Care Specialists too. No regrets, no "wish this was different".  The bottom of my train was really dirty ? oil or something from one of the outdoor photo ops ? it looked just like new.  The only thing that might be a problem for others is it took longer than I expected (and longer than she said); this wasn?t a problem for me because I was done with it?.but it might be an issue for someone else. I had a silk gown with lots of bead and a small to medium train and I paid $250.

  • I used Mashek's in Hopkins to get my gown cleaned. That is where we have our festival royalty take their formals to get cleaned as well.

Thanks for sharing, those are just too precious. I love moms and their amazing sewing abilities, because I'm completely clueless in that area. :) These are just adorable and your already beautiful little girls will just shine in these. I can't wait to get moving on mine. Mom's making a little suit set out of my dress for my son, and may make a gown for any future girls, too. I'm looking forward to seeing what she comes up with!
