I got canceled from work tonight because our census is low (I work in NICU). This got me to thinking about what else I would do if I had a chance, soooo...
~ If you could work in any other profession than what you are doing now what would it be?
~What makes you interested in that particular profession?
~If you have kids (or will be) would you be a stay at home mom if possible?
~How much salary do you think a stay at home mom should make? (if it were a paying gig.)
Re: Random poll
~ If you could work in any other profession than what you are doing now what would it be? Something in the arts or sports. Not like a professional athlete (well, that would be nice lol), but like a serious instructor with my own studio. In the arts, I would like any design, fashion, interior, graphic.
~What makes you interested in that particular profession? Those are more my natural inclinations, they give me more enjoyment and feelings of accomplishment.
~If you have kids (or will be) would you be a stay at home mom if possible? Hmm... tough. On the one hand, I think it's great for kids to have their mom at home. BUT, I think I would hate it! I will definitely have a lot of family expectations to stay home if I have kids, which is one thing that makes me kind of not want to.
~How much salary do you think a stay at home mom should make? (if it were a paying gig.) I agree with Zara about the hidden financial contribution an at-home spouse makes. I've calculated how much I "spend" to go to work v. how much we "save" if I'm at home, and it's a lot, besides the lifestyle issues of healthier meals, etc. With kids I would expect the difference is even more.
I know a lot of SAH moms, and like any job, I don't think they should all be paid the same. I think the base salary could be the cost of going to work (not the salary you give up, but the cost of commuting, eating out more, outsourcing laundry and cleaning, etc.) Then there should be performance bonuses lol! I have several friends who are amazing moms and really put in a huge effort to have healthy meals, take the kids to the park every day, and supervise school work and activities. If they worked in a company, they'd be the one getting the bonus and promotion. I also know a few SAHMs who would be fired if they put that little work into a paid job.
~ If you could work in any other profession than what you are doing now what would it be? Freelance writer.
~What makes you interested in that particular profession? I love to write.
~If you have kids (or will be) would you be a stay at home mom if possible? I would love to be. But I doubt we'll be able to afford it.
~How much salary do you think a stay at home mom should make? (if it were a paying gig.) A lot, LOL.Books read in 2012: 21/50
~ If you could work in any other profession than what you are doing now what would it be?
A math teacher.
~What makes you interested in that particular profession?
I've always loved math
~If you have kids (or will be) would you be a stay at home mom if possible?
I would be if it were possible. I'm the breadwinner, so it's more feasible my husband will be a SAHD.
~How much salary do you think a stay at home mom should make? (if it were a paying gig.)
At least as much as daycare! $16,000 a year per child. I about cried when I did the math on that. $310 a week for an infant.
~ If you could work in any other profession than what you are doing now what would it be? I have no clue. Seriously. None. Maybe something that involves research? Or politics?
~What makes you interested in that particular profession? I love to read and learn about new things. I find politics fascinating and am amazed at how people get seriously worked up about it.
~If you have kids (or will be) would you be a stay at home mom if possible? We haven't really talked about this. In an ideal world, I'd love it. But we live in a less than ideal world.
~How much salary do you think a stay at home mom should make? (if it were a paying gig.) I agree with the PPs. It's a valuable job that could easily be a high paying "career".What's in bold might be the best thing I ever heard.

~ If you could work in any other profession than what you are doing now what would it be? Currently my profession is my dream job, so I honestly wouldn't pick anything else. Except perhaps to travel worldwide for National Geographic and experience parts of the world that would further humble me and allow me to share truth through pictures with the world.
~What makes you interested in that particular profession? See above.
~If you have kids (or will be) would you be a stay at home mom if possible? I currently work from home for my full-time job, so the plan is to keep me here. I am adapting to being alone a lot better these days and have really enjoyed learning how to be a SAHW while waiting to find out we have a BITO.
~How much salary do you think a stay at home mom should make? (if it were a paying gig.) I think this depends on a lot of factors - I know that in our area it's close to $400 a week for an infant for daycare - in my previous job that would have allowed me to retain $400 from each paycheck after the fact - I can make that much in my personal business working from home and have the additional perk of being able to personally raise my child/children. Other factors would be whether the SAHM would be sending their children to school or homeschooling - if it was the latter then additional gas for educational adventures, the cost of those educational adventures, schoolbooks, learning materials, etc would have to be taken into consideration. I guess if we totaled the pay of a full-time launderer, house cleaner, chauffer, educator, cook, referree and personal motivator we might have a vague idea.

~ If you could work in any other profession than what you are doing now what would it be? I would love to be an activities director in an assisted living environment. I've thought about it many times but my job (after 14 years) is very very flexible and very nice to work at. Money is good and I have 3 weeks vacation. Would hate to give that up to pursue another career interest. I might feel different if we weren't trying to start a family.
~What makes you interested in that particular profession? I love elderly people and being around them. You can learn alot from them and they are an inspiration. I could NOT work in a nursing home environment though.
~If you have kids (or will be) would you be a stay at home mom if possible? My dream has always been a stay at home mom but in todays times thats sometimes impossible. I would be happy to work part time if my H and I could swing it. I hate to miss out on all the milestones of our future children.
~How much salary do you think a stay at home mom should make? (if it were a paying gig.) 6 figures for sure. Its a hard challenging but yet rewarding job.
Make a pregnancy ticker
I love reading all of these answers. Very interesting!
~ If you could work in any other profession than what you are doing now what would it be? Either train to become a baker or a dog trainer.
~What makes you interested in that particular profession? I discovered a few years ago that I love baking, and I love working with dogs too.
~If you have kids (or will be) would you be a stay at home mom if possible? I'd love to be a SAHM, but right now I make more than H and we have debt to pay off. Eventually I'd like to go part time or PRN (1 or 2 shifts a month).
~How much salary do you think a stay at home mom should make? (if it were a paying gig.) A lot! I like pp's answer that some SAHMs wouldn't get paid very much if it were based on performance. Other's would make 6 figures.Fun survey! I got on and tried to answer last night but had to get off before I could finish my reply.
~ If you could work in any other profession than what you are doing now what would it be? Something creative. I'd love to be an interior designer, but I can't draw, so I have trouble communicating my ideas - they're just stuck in my head until I make them happen. It would take some really trusting clients to hire me!
~What makes you interested in that particular profession? I have loved watching decorating shows since I was a kid, when there were only one or two on tv (Christopher Lowell and some lady who I don't remember, and they'd decorate fake rooms on the tv set in front of a live audience). I really enjoy "playing" around my house, and I'd love to be able to brainstorm ideas for other people's houses and make it happen!
~If you have kids (or will be) would you be a stay at home mom if possible? I would like to, but we couldn't get by without my salary. DH is making plans to change careers in the next 6-9 months, so that could change. While I doubt I'd be able to be home full time, being home part time might be a possibility. A small one, but I'm still holding out hope
~How much salary do you think a stay at home mom should make? (if it were a paying gig.) Last night, my answer was simple - "a lot." Now, I agree with PPs - it would be based on performance. Not necessarily how great your kid does at something, or how many things they're involved in, but just the effort the mom puts into childraising. I know some SAHMs who are on FB all day, and I just want to post a reminder on their wall daily to get offline and go play with your kid!
~ If you could work in any other profession than what you are doing now what would it be? I'd get the heck outta healthcare, that's for sure! I'm done! H and I are eventually planning on going into business for ourselves running our own bar, and I cannot wait. Moving from a desk job to F&B where I'm up on my feet all day again sounds so delicious I can't stand it.
~What makes you interested in that particular profession? It's everything I like about my current job (a lot of interaction with people and the public, which I love) and the opposite of what I hate about my current job (up on my feet instead of a cube/hideyhole in clinic, being my own boss, setting my own hours).
~If you have kids (or will be) would you be a stay at home mom if possible? I have one son, and H and I are talking about another child or two, but if I could make it happen, I'd be a stay-at-home mom. I was a single mom for so many years and at one point worked two jobs while in college and taking care of a child. It kills me I couldn't give my son the childhood I wish I could have as a SAHM. My real hope is that H starts making a ridiculous amount of money so that I can stay home, but if that can't happen, I'd like to do what my mom did, which was help my dad run a business and be able to do the books and certain things from home. That way she was around for me and still working.
~How much salary do you think a stay at home mom should make? (if it were a paying gig.) I haven't a clue. I'd like to say six figures, but I really couldn't put a monetary value on it. I'd go back and be a SAHM to my son for free if I could. (Assuming that somewhere - spouse, child support [which I never got!], etc. - was paying the bills.)<a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="D
~ If you could work in any other profession than what you are doing now what would it be?social work
~What makes you interested in that particular profession? the thought of what some of these parents do to their childrens kills me
~If you have kids (or will be) would you be a stay at home mom if possible? i do have children and would die to be SAHM but it is just not feasable
~How much salary do you think a stay at home mom should make? (if it were a paying gig. i really have no idea, 24 hours, cook, maid, caregiver, they do it allLol! Do we know the same person? I have an acquaintance who's a SAHM with 2 kids, and every time I get on FB there are about 100 posts from her (she is probably the most frequent poster I know, including teenage relatives). Ironically, her posts are mostly about how she's soooo busy with the kids and housework.
