I tend to pay a lot of attention to people's gardens when I'm out and about.I love to get fresh ideas for my own garden.
One of my mama's neighbors has a full array of various containers and pots as their garden rather than beds. I noticed the other day that the neighbor converted an old, wrought iron bed into a "garden bed"! They painted the frame black and put planks of wood down where the mattress would sit. They had various assorted pots and containers positioned on the bed. They also had an old, claw tub, bathtub which they converted into a huge container.I think they put petunias in it last year so they spilled over the sides of the bath tub.
What have you seen that was re-cycled into a "new" garden feature?
Re: Cool container gardening...
Yes, this is done at every flower and garden show I've been to in the past 10 years. I've seen all kinds of furniture turned into gardens, especially beds and chairs. Sinks are more common than bathtubs, but I have even seen toilets planted with flowers (yuck). It works if you have a really large yard.
I've seen grass couches in magazines. Pretty cool, if you like grass.I guess maybe it's more topiary than container though.
I dig the bathtub idea in kind of a Rousseau-surrealist vibe.

Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman
Wow those are some big containers! A fellow garden club member used an old charcoal grill as a planter after the wheel fell off. She liked that it is a red color and planted yellow, red, and white flowers in it. The hummingbirds love it!
One of the blogs I follow has some amazing moss gardens in containers. Truly stunning! The containers range from old pottery to cement to dug out tree stumps.
Ooooh, I love that moss garden.
BTW -- you were trying to grow moss, right? Have you tried a yogurt/buttermilk/moss milkshake?

No I haven't tried that yet but I plan to! I heard it's a mess though and that it can take a while for it to fill in. Currently I've just been transplanting moss from areas I have it already growing to between the flagstones in our path. As we've been garlic mustard pulling if we come across any we save it. My parents also just found a bunch of moss clumps that I might grab a few to see how they do in my area (their soil is more sandy). I have at least 7 different kinds of moss in our yard, woods, and trails.
I've seen a defunct row boat transformed into a raised veggie bed. it's amazing!
