Re: how expensive or easy is it to remove concrete in yard

  • Is the whole yard concrete, or just portions?

I'm not going to sugar coat it- it's backbreaking labor (think sledge hammers, pickaxes, shovels, and wheelbarrows) if you do it yourself.

It would cost $400-$600 where I'm at depending on how big of a slab, and how much fill dirt is needed to level the yard.

  • How big is the slab? The whole yard? How thick is it? The price will vary greatly based on those factors.

To do it yourself, its a lot of work. You'll also need a truck to haul it away and you'll likely have to pay to dump it.

  • We removed 35 feet of driveway and a bit of sidewalk.  We broke it up with an excavator and loaded it into a dump truck.  It's not easy or cheap.
  • Thanks ladies! Thank goodness it's a small area of concrete in the backyard I'll probably end up paying someone to remove it..

the previous owners used the area as a patio floor...

If its just a small area, it probably wouldn't cost much more to have someone do it once you factor in any equipment rentals, trucks, dumping, etc, and it will save you a lot of work!

  • the best way would be find someone to break it and take it away.

We broke ours up ourselves (sidewalk) and LUCKILY found someone on craigslist that needed broken concrete/scrap pieces to fill in something. Otherwise it would have been expensive to get rid of it
