Yes, I really need that many exclamation points to convey how excited I am. Yesterday was my oral assessment for the Foreign Service and I received my conditional offer. I honestly still can't believe it. It was a long and intense day and my brain still hurts. I've been working toward this for six months and I still can't believe I've cleared all of the hurdles. I passed the written test in October, passed the "QEP" which is basically a panel reviewing my essays and resume and giving a thumbs up or thumbs down, and now finally the oral assessment.
Of course, me being me, I'm already thinking about the next step. Even though I got a conditional offer, there is still no guarantee I'll get a formal offer. I'll be ranked against other cleared candidates based on my score from yesterday. My score was decent but not good enough to guarantee me a spot. Soooo.......time to pick a language and start studying.

Whooo hoo! That is great news!
What languages would you be interested in learning?
Congrats!
I'm deciding between Spanish and Arabic. I will get bonus points that will move me closer to the top of the hiring list if I pass a langauge test. On the one hand, I already know some Spanish, but you have to test at a pretty high functioning level in it and the bonus you get is smaller. I've had no Arabic training, but I'm about to move to an Arabic-speaking country and the level of proficiency you have to achieve is a bit lower than for Spanish and I would get a huge bonus that would put me very close to the top of the list. Decisions, decisions.
This!
You are a total Baddass
