Anyone want to weigh in??

I made a name clicky poll on the oct 2011 board. . .feel free to go vote.  Or just comment here.  These are probably my top 5 right now but I'm not really in love with any of them it.  It's really odd b/c H and I keep going back to names that begin with K.  H's favorite name is Kiersten but I'm not a fan at all.

  • I'm kinda partial to K names, myself.

    Wink

    I like Kiera.

    Meet Beyonce Jr.

  • I like Kiera as well. I'm not a big fan of Kaleigh and all the versions of it because it seems over-used.
  • I like Kiera and Kendall. My SIL BF is named Kendall and I thought it was a cool name.

I'm not a fan of Kaleigh, My friend has a dog named that so all I can think of is her dog.

I like Kylie.  Have you checked out nymbler.com? It's a pretty cool baby name website.

Edited to say that I think it also depends on your LN, which of course I don't know :)

  • I like Kendall...I think it sounds feminine but not fussy, KWIM? Sounds like girl that can be girly but also hang with the guys.

    ditto this!

i have a friend whose daughter's name is kalen, if you want another less common, but not too yoo-neek name =)

  • Since you asked...

Kylie Michelle - no, because while Kylie is a cute name, it's super duper trendy right now. Not to mention Kylie is a very cute name for a little girl, but it does not translate well to a professional career for an adult woman. My favorite way to "judge" a name is to use the Supreme Court Justice game - say the name and see how it sounds. "Kylie Michelle, Supreme Court Justice". It just doesn't work (IMO).

Kaleigh - same comments as Kylie, they sound very similar. Not to mention as someone who has a name that is spelled slightly differently than the norm, it is a GIANT pain in the arse, SO annoying to have to constantly correct people. There are so many derivatives, Kayley, Kayleigh, Kalee, etc. she will constantly have to spell her name for people, not to mention she will probably never be able to find her name on any junky souvenirs from Disney. Those things are important to a kid. :)

Kerrington - This is cute, but it's usually spelled Carrington, so she will be forever correcting people, not to mention she will probably be called Carrie/Kerrie. Not sure if this is annoying to you.

Kiera - pretty name, but everyone will think you named her after the actress. Also, same comments as Kylie. Too young sounding and she will have to spell it forever, even though it's spelled the traditional way, the name is "new" enough that a lot of people will not know how to spell it at all and she will have to spell it out for them.

Kendal - I think this is fine, as long as you spell it Kendall. Removing the one L will be annoying forever for spelling reasons, and it seems like you're trying to make it "youneek". It's gender neutral, so she will have to deal with mail and email being addressed to Mr. Kendall Last Name.

What about names with a C, same as the K sound? Cassandra, Caroline, Catherine, Cameron?

  • I like Kendall but with two Ls.  Like PP, what about Katherine or Karley/Karleigh?  I like Kylie.  I know a "Kaili" and she has grown up well with the name.  I do not like Kaleigh.  It's way overused right now.

I actually love the name Carly, but not spelled Karley or Karleigh. It's just too "youneek". I may be a judgy mcjudgerson (actually I know that I am, LOL) but when I see a name spelled like that I assume the parents are trashy teenagers.

ETA - I'm with your H, I really like Kiersten. Is the K an absolute must? What about

    Kaitlyn

    Kara (LOVE this name)

    Katerina

    Kelsey

  • On a positive note, no matter which one of those names you pick, she will be fine. I just read that Jay Mohr and Nikki Cox named their baby BOY Meredith. I wish they had gone with Helicopter or something equally Hollywood-esque. Meredith? for a boy? I know that technically it can be a boy name, a la Pat, Leslie, Lynn, etc, but I still think it's a horrible thing to do.

I KNOW! What the hell happened to her? Her lips, her forehead, everything is such a mess, she looks totally disgusting.

i think she went down the tara reid path of "more surgery to stay famous"...cuz her acting talent is not really there. some people don't know how to let the hollywood thing go.

  • Ok, I'm sorry to jack your post some more, but that nymbler site is really cool. Genevieve and Vivienne are two of my favorite girl names, and these are a couple of the options it gave me

    Evangeline

    Helene

i like them all but this one...how is it pronounced?!

  • Either Mel-uh-sand or Mel-uh-sahhnde (long a, an ahhhhh sound). It's similar to Millicent. I wouldn't use the name because she would constantly have to tell people how to pronounce and spell it, which gets old and very annoying.
  •  Thanks for all the responses, I really appreciate them!  I'm really not in love with any names and I think that's the hardest part.

As for all the spelling stuff my name is about as common as they come and I have forever had to tell people how to spell it.  I think it's something that is hard to avoid.

Kerrington I actually got from a girl on so you think you can dance and she really spells it Kherington but I'm a fan of the H.  I just prefer the K spelling over the C spelling.

Kaleigh was picked b/c Leigh is my middle name.  H really likes Carly/Carleigh but one of the girls I grew up with is Carly and since we are still really close to the family I'd rather not use that name.

Kiera I got out of a baby name book and my first thought was that's the daughter on Reba!

And it doesn't have to be a K, that is just what we seem to be attracted to.  Another K name we had on the list is Kenley but I'm not totally sold on it.

H really likes Audrey also but again one of my friends named her daughter that.  I had thought Aubrey instead but I don't know.
