things to do in monterey?

So we were thinking about going to carmel for our anniversary, but it seems everything is so expensive, and we just got the bill for our IVF...ugh

I'm thinking maybe monterey since I have a little gift card, which means we can spend our money doing things. But I've never been there...what are some things to do?

  • Monterey & Carmel are so close to each other... you can easily stay in one and do activities in both.

Monterey, the aquarium of couse (AAA has discount tickets), walk around the wharf, lots of yummy food to work your way through, drive through 17 mile drive.

That's just off the very tip of my head...

  • Here's the list of things that we've done in Carmel/Monterey:

    Monterey Bay Aquarium

    Cannery Row

    Fisherman's Wharf

    Pt. Lobos State Park

    Pt. Pinos Lighthouse

    Mission Carmel

    17 mile drive

    walking Ocean Ave. in Carmel

I wanted to see the Tor House (historic home tour) but can't remember why we didn't.

I'm not sure if the Maritime Museum has re-opened yet (it's near Fisherman's Wharf)

  • I second those and would add that Pacific Grove was a great view/look out point. It's right next door to Monterey, too.
  • We also had a lovely dinner at Nepenthe in Big Sur, if you have a chance to get down that far.  We did the 17 mile drive along the coast, stopped and did some hiking/walks at the various State Parks, had dinner and drinks at Nepenthe, then made our way back.  It was a whole day, but a wonderful awesome day.  GL!

I think Dani was saying that that part of Hwy 1 is closed right now.
  • Pt. Lobos is super cool if you're into outdoorsy stuff. If you go at low tide, they have the best tidepools.

Loungitudes (sp?) is a really cool bar and restaurant in Pacific Grove.

My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.
