For any of you who have been wondering about the progress of my nephew, I thought I'd share . . .
After two hospitalizations totaling two weeks, 4 brain surgeries (1 major, 3 minor), multiple sedations for MRIs, lots of tests and LOTS of frustrations/stress, he came home the day before Mother's Day and since then has been astounding everyone with his recovery and progress.
It has been amazing! He is more verbal - and not just repeating words, but comprehending them, responding to them, and stringing them together. AMAZING!! Plus, he's calmer (he used to have awful rages - daily - and twice put his hand through windows!) - he's happier, he's interacting with people - his teachers, his therapists, and most importantly, his classmates. Plus, he's engaging in activities and trying new things (a BIG step). My sister is so amazed and proud of him. She says it has been years since he's been like this - a happy kiddo.
The surgery wasn't supposed to change his behavior - just prevent it from getting worse due to a tumor that was growing too fast and likely to put pressure on something or other and cause him massive headaches and pain. But somehow, removing the tumor to prevent future problems and set-backs has actually miraculously improved his present abilities! Yay!
Thank you all so much for the thoughts, prayers and vibes - and for just indulging my postings about it all. Thank you thank you thank you!
Re: Nephew update!!
