Tell me about your stove......

Not sure if I ever posted this.

We may be in the market for a new stove.  Our oven element broke and the stove is almost 30 years old.  DH will attempt to fix but if that does not work then we will have to buy a new stove.

We have electric, no gas option in our house.  So if you had $1000 to spend which stove would you get.

Thanks.

Re: Tell me about your stove......

  • Ummm... I went to the Sears outlet and bought a glass top one that fit the whole in our counter.  LOL.  I didn't spend anything near $1000.

I always oggle the kitchen aid and electrolux ones when we go to best buy, no idea how much those cost though.

  • I ordered a new heating element for our electric stove and fixed it myself (and I am NOT handy at all) you literally just plug it in. We've been looking at stoves recently - Lowes seemed to have the best selection. I would look for either a GE profile or Maytag Gold series.

  • did i mention that our stove is galaxy brand from 1979?  it has no features, no timer, no self cleaning oven, no nothing.  I'm leaning towards replacing, DH wants to repair.

Kathryn-was their wiring involved with your element?  Ours requires wiring to fix and kind of scares me to have DH do it.

I doubt I would spend $1k but I saw the convection feature and my eyes lit up.

    No wiriing!

New stove will probably be ~600-800 - I'd get a new stove.

Those electrolux ones are nice, but I think you need special wiring to use all the features.

  • Sears outlet! Our electric oven broke and rather than replacing it, DH and I opted to get a new stove. Stove was original to the house and NASTY. (There was so much baked on/clumped grease in the drawer that I just covered it in foil. I couldn't get it off Embarrassed)

No help to you with our new one, because it is gas. (We had a gas line there already). The cost of the stove +installation at the outlet store, was less than the cost of the stove at the regular Sears/Lowes/Home Depot stores.

  • We got a new one 3 years ago this summer from the Sears Outlet to replace a stove that was probably from 1978 as it was the same model my parents had until I was in elementary school  I love it.  It's Kenmore Elite and would have been ~$1600 in the store, but we got it for 1K because there is a dent on the side (the side you can't see because it's against the counter.)  It got good Consumer Report ratings.

It's glass top & has double ovens- no bottom drawer. I love having the 2 ovens.  85% of the time we only use the top oven. 10% of the time we use the big lower oven (which has convect bake, convect roast and proofing settings) and when I host a big holiday meal we use both and it's great because I can have them at different temps.

  • We have a gas stove so my specific recommendation won't help you. But it's a Kenmore (as almost all our kitchen appliances are) and we got it at Sears (good experience).

  • ditto daisy we have a double oven and I love it . It was here when we got the house . We use the top oven mostly and both with big parties .

I also second the sears outlet as we have  gotten good deals there . I have seen some double ovens at hhgregg for around 1k and stainless - not sure if they could be cheaper in just black  or white .

Good luck and happy oven shopping !!

  • never even considered the thought of a double oven....hmmm. i was set on having understorage since right now our stove does not even have a drawer.  i suppose since i am getting along without the drawer its not really needed and a second oven might be nice to have.
  • I love the smaller oven. I feel it heats up the house a lot less than the big oven does once it starts to get warm out- I am weird about firing up the oven when we have the AC on, etc.
