Creative, decorating types

What are some cheap, easy things I can do to fill up two huge (13' plus) walls?

I've considered the embroidery hoop fabric idea, but I'd need help picking fabrics that "go."

  • Can you pip the space?

diy paintings? Canvas isn't too expensive and you can easily paint a fun abstract piece.

Mirrors are great for big empty spaces, depending on the space...

I'll have more ideas if you can pip the space.

Or if you don't want it on the interwebz e-mail it to me. jennynicole at me dot com

This is the best I can do for now.  Also, I am not opposed to rearranging furniture.  I do not have any furniture in the dining area, so I could also move DD's toybox/toys/bookshelf into that space.

ETA:  Lines with pink scribbles are bare.  Existing wall art included for reference.  I am not in love with flowers or boats.  In fact, the flowers can go.  The boats were both gifts from the artists and I love them, so they stay.

  • I'm not so good at decorating homes, but I had a similar situation with a huge wall in our living room. I ended up hanging some cute shelves that I found at Target and putting some (hopefully) cute things on them, like a vase, a candle, etc. It helped fill the space.
  • Not sure if you would like this, or if it's doable for you but if I had a blank wall I'd love to attempt it:

  • I'm not sure what the style of your home is but I always liked the look of photo collages.. basically taking a bunch of your favorite photos and buying some random frames (like at thrift shops or something).  Or if you like more uniformity you could just buy the same frames and then you hang them in a large grouping, unevenly on the wall.

I made a bunch of our wedding photos into black and whites and got black frames and hung them spaced out in a square shape on one of our big walls and I get a lot of compliments on it.

  • You could do a gallery wall around the TV, I love those...

I'd move the bookcase to the other side of that wall, and center the TV more. Or you could do a galleryish wall with the fabric, embroidery rings like you mentioned...  If you don't want to do a gallery wall (they can get expensive) I'd do 2 large narrow pieces of art on either side of the tv.

Behind the TV I'd go for a large piece of art or a paneled artwork... you could easily DIY.

Here's my living room for an example ignore the blank canvas, and focus on placement... I hadn't decided what I wanted to paint yet.

Or something like this behind the wall is always fun!
