Re: what are some gorgeous perennial flowers?
You need to start by finding out your growing zone for what works in your region. You can find it using your ZIP code.
You'll also need to know what kind of sun you're getting. I like a few shade-loving perennials, but they're going to die in full sun. I love roses, but they don't do well in my shady back yard.
And beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What I like may not be your cup of tea. I can't stand pansies or geraniums, but I love Black eyed Susans.
Our little Irish rose came to us on March 5, 2010
Don't drink the water.

I agree. We need more info here.
What zone are you in? Sun or shade? What colors do you like? What kind of soil do you have?
How large is the bed? How tall do you want the flowers? Do you want shrubs or something that arises from the ground every year? Do you want something that will be evergreen in a cold climate? Do you want something that will bloom all season long (very limited choice in perennials) or do you want several different species that will bloom one after the other? What style is your home?
Having asked all that ... Stella d'Oro daylilies are easy for a beginner and bloom summer through autumn. Do you like yellow?
Hydrangeas make nice shrubs that have a big flower head in blue, pink, or white. Some put out new blooms all season long.
Some of the new roses are easy care and gorgeous.
There is so much to choose from. Even catnip can be very pretty!
You might want to browse some of the large nursery websites to see what appeals to you. See what you fall in love with. Make sure it's also attractive when not in bloom. Or go to a local nursery and ask for recommendations.
