s/o Promise Rings.. who had them?

I just noticed Ashley saying she still wears hers so it made me wonder who else did this??  How did it happen, I mean did he say he'd marry you "someday" or what?!

Lastly, can I see it?? lol!

  • I got one...but it was mortifying and from my parents....lol.

When I turned 16 and DH and I had been dating a few years, my parents and I talked about sex and somehow came upon the mutual agreement that I'd wait until I was 18 to have sex.  I picked on a gold and tanzanite ring (I think I still have, I'll have to pip later) and that was that.

And yes, we did wait.  Until we graduated HS, and I had been on BC exactly a week.

    Aw, that's really pretty Ashley.

Jason is too cheap jewelry wise, so I was lucky I got an engagement ring, let alone a promise ring before it lol.

My boyfriend who I dated for 3 years throughout highschool gave me a really pretty sapphire, diamond, and white gold ring as a 'symbol of his love' and so that when I went away to college I could always just look down and think about him.  Too bad I broke up with him 2 months before I left for college but kept the ring because it is really pretty lol. Devil  I still have it, I just don't wear it often unless it matches my outfit really well or something.

  • We started by getting "matching" rings in May of 08 for our 6 month "anniversary" when we went to Mexico.  We sorta claimed them as promise rings, but it was more just really neat to get rings that had the exact same carvings that no one else would have.

When we put our first offer in on a home (not the one we bought) back in November 2008, we went and picked out this ring for each other and we both wore it on our left hand ring fingers.  We picked the most unisex ring we could find at Tiffany's without having it be an actual band.  When we "exchanged" them we both just sorta giggled that someday it'll be for real.

ETA: I actually paid for his and he paid for mine cause we were that lame-o lol

Aww!  I think it counts!!  At that moment it was an honest promise!

  • Nope. I wanted one, but he said he wanted to wait until he could buy me a "real" ring. Looking back, I'm glad I didn't get one...I doubt I would wear it now.

Not lame. I'd do the same thing. Otherwise you're buying YOURSELF a ring.... ;)

  • I've been given promise rings by previous boyfriends - only kept one ring of the two. Zach bought me a ring prior to our engagement, but it was a birthstone ring, not promise. I'm not a fan of promise rings, so instead he bought a ring that had my birthstone (aquamarine) and his (diamond).
