Garden

We planted the garden last thursday (an by we I mean I did the strawberries and green beans, chase did the rest) and stuff is starting to come up and our strawberry plants are starting to get berries! I am hoping that the weather being cold didn't hurt anything.

Re: Garden

  • How cool! I look forward to having a garden one day ...
  • We planted a couple weeks ago. I still have about 16 bell pepper plants to plant that have just been chilling outside, we have to till up a third area in the yard for those and then a fourth area for melons and squash. We almost have a small farm...
  • I'm hoping to work on mine this weekend... everything is just in pots still :)

  • Thats great, I hope to get a bit more motivated this year.  I just put my herbs out yesterday, hopefully they will make it.  I have never tried to grow anything before.  It would be so nice to have fresh fruit and veggies!
  • This makes me jealous. I want a garden but I dont have time to plant one and we rent so i dont know if the landlord would be cool with us digging up part of the back yard. :(

  • I bought a flat of various veggie plants on Mother's Day, and planted them in containers until the weather gets better and I have time to prepare beds for them. There are a dozen pots in our family room! I bought a raised garden bed kit, so there's that to tackle, but I'll be glad to have more room to plant produce. I've told DH the more space I have to plant, the less grass he has to cut Stick out tongue

It is the best feeling to be getting ready for dinner, and walk outside to pick something fresh from the plant to use in the meal Smile

If you had the time you could do container gardens. My mom rents so all of her veggies are in big plastic or rubber pots.

I am not big on gardening, it is pretty much DH's project. If it were my garden I would have tomatoes and strawberries in topsy turvy planters and that would be the end of it.

  • We have pots all over our house too. The coolest ones are the pumpkins. The stem/vines are huge! I am ready to get them outside!  We didn't want them to die so maybe this weekend they can be moved outside.
  • Monkey I'm so jealous!  My strawberries have taken a year to get flowers and even now I still only have flowers!!

I've got 4 raised beds...still waiting for it to warm up to get my tomatoes in the ground.  My garlic is doing awesome!!!  It's at least a foot high!  Now i get need to wait for it to yellow so I can harvest...(I think it's in late june) I just planted my cukes this am Mt one beautiful tomato plant from seed got "lost" yesterday after I put it on the spot i wanted to plant it in.  I was gonna plant it this morning but timot brought up my cukes and the empty tomato pack and said it was empty when he found it!

BOOO, the only one that didn't die!!  So now I have to buy all my starts...sniff sniff oh well.  None of my seed worked.  Rowan smashed them all while they were hardening outside last week.

When do you plant garlic? and did you grow it from seed or starter plant? I may be interested in trying garlic next year.

We bought already established strawberry plants, they were decent sized already when we got them and some had flowers on them. They are in a topsy turvy planter. Those darn things are heavy! They bent my shephards hook so Chase built an arbor type thing for them.
