do any of you have an ikea mattress?
they are ridiculously cheap and ours is a POS so we are shopping around possibly.
Re: do any of you have an ikea mattress?
No and while I don't usually listen to this stuff, DH actually made a point to mention this the other day:

No, but I will say that a mattress is one thing you want to invest in.
I would maybe have bought an Ikea mattress in college but now that I'm in my 30's and need good back support, I don't think I'd get one from there.
I got my mattress at Croyden Mattress Factory. I freakin love it. Best bed I've ever slept on.
here's the thing we bought a fancy "good" name brand mattress for 1000 less then 5 years ago and it has been less then stellar. if i can get three out of a 250-300 mattress i would think it is a win.
i agree about the hidden costs of other *** you need with the mattress but we don't own a headboard etc so we would have to buy it anyway. hmmm
LOL also all our dinnerware is from ikea actually and it was way cheaper then target and is almost 6years old. love it.
Also this is the mattress i really want but i don't have 2k at the moment:

White lotus mattress's are the best, I have a friend who use to work for them and she has her mattress in great condition from the 90s!
We got our mattress and boxspring at Mattress Giant in July 09. I think it's a Simmons. We paid close to 700 for the queen set. DH has a bad back, and he has no complaints. It's still in very decent shape close to 2 years later. DH decided we didn't need the split boxspring when I said we did. He won, and the delivery people were hence carrying it up the fire escape to our 3rd floor apartment and back down again when we moved. I was crossing my fingers that they would get it upstairs in the house when we moved in. Luckily, we don't have a slope above the stairs like many South Philly rowhomes do, and it made it up with no problem.
To me, the Ikea ones feel like they don't have much support.
If you only want it to last 3 years, you should be ok then. We had an IKEA bed frame though and it was junk. The slats on the one we got would always fall through because the screws eventually got weak and the bed was able to shift slighty. I would get one of the lower frames, like the Malm. They seemed better.
This is the one we had http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S99861571
Haha, this is happening to us right now! It sounds like an explosion in the middle of the night. I'm so over our IKEA crap. I'd say if it was as an in-between, do it. But I'd probably just save up for the one you really want. Our mattress is 8 years this month and it also sucks, but was decent when we bought it - it is a Sterns and Foster from Raymour and Flanagan. Everything in my bedroom suckkks at the moment from the cheap crap to the relatively expensive bed. ::sigh:: Just save up for something really good.
We have an IKEA mattress and box spring on our IKEA set but it is in our guest bedroom. I think for the guest bedroom, it's perfect because it gets very little use. I don't think I'd buy one for everyday use though (i.e. our bedroom) but if you just need it for ~3 years, you should be OK. We have a Tempurpedic in our bedroom and it's magical.
IMO, I think the Dump is exactly what the name is... a dump. I've been there many times and have never found anything remotely good. They also had a bug problem there a couple years ago which freaks me out beyond belief so I'd never purchase anything from there because of that even though I know there are probably no bugs now.
