Pirates and mermaids birthday party

My friend and I are throwing a combined birthday party for our kids.  THey'll be three.  Any invitation wording ideas?  I found one online but didn't like it too much.  Any thoughts?

we're having it at a splash and play from 10a-12n

Not sure what to serve b/c its brunch??  The timing of the food is odd - 11am perhaps because our session is done at noon.  Should we keep it simple?  Thoughts?  Brunch, lunch or something else??

We're going to make two cakes - a pirate cake and a mermaid cake we found on youtube.  Super cute!

We'll set up an automatic bubble blowing machine and a plastic bin filled with bubbles and big wands.  I think that's more than enough for activities.

We don't really plan to decorate other than the food and cake tables...

Re: Pirates and mermaids birthday party

  • I'm not so sure 3 year olds do "brunch" because they need breakfast, so I think you can get by without a full meal, since you'll be done by lunch, and most people will have had breakfast not too long before.  Snacks mostly? Goldfish crackers! Fruit, cheese, crackers, mini bagels with spread.

I think it could be easy to hang some nets with fish/ star fish caught in them, write "Happy Birthday" on triangle flags (like ship flags) to easily play up the theme a little bit.

  • I have no suggestions but I totally LOVE this idea.  Make sure you come back afterwards & let us know how everything turned out.
  • I would imagine most moms will have fed their kids breakfast before heading to the party.

I would think a light lunch would work: think supermarket deli chicken tenders and chips.  Maybe some fruit and veggies with dip.

Something snacky like trail mix or chex mix that includes Goldfish of course like PP suggested.

    GL!

  • Re: food - def' would have heavy snacks for the little ones.  Even though they have eaten breakfast at this age... they get hungry early.  Plus - its sad - but not all parents feed their kids well.  I would have heavy snacks esp. Gold fish crackers for them.  Will the parents be there as well?  Maybe have some things they would like to eat too.

Re: Mermaids theme - I did a "Little Mermaid" themed party 1 1/2 ago.  Did Blue Christmas Tree Lights and Blue "Ocean Punch" too... was very fun.

Re: Games/Favors  - You can throw a bunch of quarters in the pool/play area and have the children search for "treasure".  My sister did this at a "Pirate" party for her son and it was awesome.  Also... swords for boys... foam or whatever.  Those bead necklaces for girls.  Please post pictures and Good Luck!

  • Definitely learn more to lunchy foods.  You could make pb&j and use cookie cutters in your theme.

You don't say ages for the kids, but I'd be leery of the swords.  Some parents may not be pleased with even a foam one. Go for eye patches and chocolate gold coins.

  • Love all these great ideas! What are your thoughts on pinata or favor bags?
