Hey Greenies! Not sure if anyone remembers me but I used to post quite a bit about a year ago. I also write the Eco-Friendly and Frugal blog.
Anywho, I've been having a boring year green-wise but it's about to get very interesting!
FI and I have decided to move into his Dad's old farmhouse up in Chico, CA and buy it from him!!! It's a beautiful old house, about 100 years old and on two acres with a guest house and a barn, so perfect for a "forever" home which is great because we'll never have to move again! But there are obviously a lot of problems that need to be dealt with that his Dad has sort of neglected so we will be taking this on this summer.
We have done a few things already, like cover the current windows with Plexiglass (to be more efficient until we can get nice double paned windows), a rain barrel is already installed, and there's a composter on the property. But that's about it!
So things we will start working on this summer are:
-Solar paneling on the roof
-Replace hot water heater with a tankless
-Insulation in the attic and walls OR insulation in attic and new insulating siding on the house
-Water saver toilets in all four working bathrooms (there's a fifth one that we're not even going to touch yet because it's non-functional)
-Renovate landscaping (we are planting more fruit trees, it currents has six and we want to add about 10 more)
And that's all I can think right now since I don't have my list near me. I'm sure I'll be on frequently over the next year asking for advice and ideas as we undertake this project! I'm just excited to finally own a home that I can work with!

Hi jebuell! It's great to see you here again. I didn't know you got engaged, congrats! It must be a huge relief that your very long house hunt has finally come to an end. Enjoy your new home and welcome back!
We've done some insulation uprades and a low-flow toilet replacement, so I'd be to discuss those things whenever, although I defer to FoxinFigi as the true expert.
Yes! That's me. I honestly forgot about it completely. I'm still interested. Let me see if I can find your email so I can send you my new address!
Welcome back! Didn't you just move to AZ not too long ago (or has time gone by a lot quicker than I realize?)?!
Rats? As in pet rats?! We have 3 of 'em!
Best sound ever: baby's heartbeat! (Heard @ 10w1d)
I moved to Arizona last year. My plan was to buy a home here since house prices are so affordable, but I couldn't find work! I'm a photographer and in California I was booked constantly and making a pretty decent wage (of course, not enough to afford to live in Southern California!). When I came to AZ I booked, no joke, 5 portrait sessions and 1 party in a year. I would do that in two weeks in CA. So I decided it was best to move back and my fiance's Dad just so happened to be selling his house in Chico. So, it really wasn't THAT long ago, but long enough that I'm going absolutely stir crazy here!
And yes, pet rats. I have... um... a lot! I'm embarrassed to tell you how many. But let's just say I have in the double digits and that first digit hasn't been a 1 for a loooong time. I love rats but I think I'm becoming a bit of a hoarder. But they are all very loved and get a lot of attention and seem happy.
