what's happening with the beer-making? As in, has it been successful so far?
I really want to try it but H is all "we're not chemists" so apparently we can't. Whatever.
Re: ***wawa***
Oh you should totally try it! It's really not hard at all, though the initial cost outlay is not insignficant, but we think the whole thing is really fun. If you go to the beer store in columbia they have kits for the equipment and kits for the ingredients and the staff there is really awesome and helpful. Tell R. to relax. It's less like scary precise chemistry and more like making bread. Really really liquidy bread.
It's gone really well. Our first three batches were total successes, and then that stupid test prep class got in the way and we haven't made any more. But we've got the ingredients for another three batches and we're making two this weekend.
We've made a hard cider, a brown ale and a blonde ale. The brown is my favorite, MH likes the blonde. All three are something I'd happily pay for in a bar, so it's not like we're doing all this work for sub-standard beer.
next two batches are a light summer-drinkin' type ale and an IPA.

Do you have to let it age/cure/whatever? I like instant gratification. And do you have to store it in a fridge?
He asked, "why are you so interested in this?" I said "people talk about it on the nest and it sounds awesome!!" then he muttered something under his breath. he hates the nest so much. LOL.
R's nest hate cracks me up. MH thought it was silly at first, but he doesn't really feel strongly about it, and I think he likes how much debate fodder I get from PCE.
Yeah, it does require a certain amount of patience. You have to let it ferment (essentially in a big bucket) for a couple of weeks, and then you bottle it and have to let it sit in the bottles to carbonate for anywhere from a week to a month. Definitely not an instant gratification kind of activity.
