TTC

Ok, I am missing the boat! Apparently, there are a bunch of us TTC or going to start TTC soon...Or a few of us who are pregnant already!

So I am being super nosey - who all is trying? Or going to start trying? Have you made any changes in diet, lifestyle, etc?

My hubs and I are going to start trying in July...  Although, it seems so far away, I want it to be here now!! haha!! I also have noticed, I have been more forgetful in taking the pill... oops!!

I have started to take prenatal vitamins, per my doctor's recommendation. She advised me to start 3 months before we start TTC. I also have started to change my lifestyle to be more healthy eating and cut out caffeine. I used to drink only soda - yeah, so bad for me!! I am down to maybe 1 or 2 a day.

I also am trying to lose weight, I would like to lose like 20 lbs by July. I have always had to battle with my weight, so I am hoping losing the extra 20 and watching what I eat will help me in the long run to have a healthier lifestyle and healthier pregnancy. I have started to excercise 5-6 times a week, and if anything this makes me feel 100X better!

So my friends that have babies, have recommended a book, Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Apparently, it's really informative on your body. I went to catholic schools and the only sex ed I have had is don't have sex! So I am hoping it will be helpful. I just got it from the library yesterday. So far, it's been interesting....

What have you guys been up to?

We're not trying, but we also haven't been as careful as we were before the wedding.  I haven't been on the pill in like probably 7 or 8 years now.  So we've always just used condoms (even while I was on the pill, we used condoms too).  I took prenatals before the wedding, just to help my hair and nails and stuff.  I always mean to pick up a bottle while I'm at Target, but I keep forgetting.

Haha, I had this, too. And it must have worked really well, since I can think of at least a half-dozen girls in my HS class who had abortions. (No one in my class had a baby.)

We've decided that we don't want kids, so I think we're going the IUD route.

I went to catholic school too, but we totally had sex ed.  Real sex ed.  Of course they taught that abstinence was best, but they also gave us all the info about condoms and STDs and stuff.  We also had the day in 5th grade where the girls got to eatch the period video while the boys did god knows what in the gym.  lol  I had already started my period long before that though, so it was kind of useless for me and the 4 other girls (out of probably 15) in our class that had started already.

We're not trying but we're also not doing anything to prevent it.  We haven't used any kind of protection, birth control pills or condoms for over 6 years now.  I have some issues that I've been told will most likely prevent me from being able to get pregnant naturally and Jason has type 1 diabetes which his doctor told him could cause issues too.  We've agreed we wouldn't want to do any major fertility treatments; I think the only thing I'd consider doing would be IUI but that's only if we both decide we really really want a baby.  We're both fine if we never have children, but figure if it happens naturally despite the odds being against us, then we'd be ecstatic.  I have been on prenatals for about a month now, but that's just to the hair and nails aspect of them.

  • We're not TTC and don't plan to for a while (3-5 yrs).  Although we've been together forever, as of this May, we've only been living in the same city (as adults, not counting when we were in hs) for 2 years.  We love our "us" time and freedom, plus we're young.

So, I'm on BC and we also use a condom....unless I'm feeling generous. lol

  • We aren't trying.  We don't have any real plans to any time soon.  I'd like to start December 2012 (my 30th bday) but who knows.  We're in no hurry right now.

I am not on the pill and we don't use condoms.  I've been tracking my cycles since August 2009 so I'm aware of what's going on and when we shouldn't be messing around (yea, yea I know it can happen other times, blah blah blah I'm not knocked up yet so quit judging lol) and that works for us.

Me too.  Catholic schools grades K-12 and they taught us about all of the different contraceptives and such.  One semester of our junior year religion class was actually called "lifestyles" and we learned about all of the choices we could make in life including birth control options.

On the TTC note: I think we may stop taking preventative measures completely in November.  I just stopped taking BC (Saturday was my last pill), but we are still going to use condoms.  I am trying to prepare my body though (cutting out caffeine, taking pre-natals, etc).  I really don't want to wait, but we will be a little better financially (fingers crossed) if we wait until next year to have a baby.

  • I have been off BC since Feb (after being on for almost 15 years).  I can only say that I wish I had stopped sooner.   People always assume that as soon as they are ready to start trying that it will happen.  Unfortunately, that is not the case for everyone.  It can take some women 6 months to a year to regulate after BC.

I have read TCOYF cover to cover and found it extremely helpful.  I would definitely recommend reading it - especially the parts about natural birth control.  If I knew then what I know now I would have stopped BC sooner and started temping/charting right away.  I have gotten to know my body so much better that way.  GL!

  • We are not TTC but I did go off of birth control a few months ago. I am still not completely regular but I am getting there. For now we just use condoms and when we feel it is right we will talk about TTC. We both want kids but we're just enjoying "our" time right now.
  • We aren't trying for kids- but if it happens it happens. I have PCOS- so getting knocked up will be difficult.

We don't usually wear condoms and haven't for a while.
I went off BC right after the wedding.
We don't chart because I haven't had a regular cycle for 5 years now.
So we do the pull out method- which we both know isn't effective- but with my PCOS- and the fact we live by "everything happens for a reason" - we aren't expecting to get pregnate but if we do- We can handle it.

My mother is furious at me for this-but its my life- our life and we can do what we want

Exactly....my Mom is mad at me too and just 'can't believe I'd be so irresponsible'  Ummm sorry Mom but I'm pretty sure I'm 26 without any kids whereas you were 19 when you had your first baby...I think I'm being a bit more responsible with my vajayjay than you were.

Both our mothers want us to have babies. But my mom wants us to plan out every aspect of it. She is very plan oriented. But Brandon and my relationship has never been about planning anything. Almost anything we have ever done was spontaneously- including our wedding. So why plan on babies. lol

BAHAHA!!!!  Love it!  We are TTC.  We JUST started.  I got off the pill a few weeks ago right after I talked to my doc about it.  I'm 29 and the oldest of the women in my family to not have kids yet (my mom started at 23 and my sis 25).  Both had to have hysterectomy's at 33, so I'm really hoping the same isn't true for me, but I have a HUGE biological clock ticking in my head.  I am taking prenatals from my doc.

DH is loving this TTC thing.  I'll say-- hey, all next week we have to have sex everyday and he'll turn into a 16 yr old and let out a little cheer and do a dance in the living room.  Oh how I love him.

What have you guys been up to?

Jen, we were initially going to wait to TTC until July too!  Except I panicked in January, realizing that since I am 34 there was a chance that I wouldn't get pregnant right away, and "What if it took me a year of trying?" and "Why not go ahead and get off the pill and let whatever happens happen?"  Once I was off the pill it was no longer "let whatever happens happen" but instantly became "We need to try to get pregnant now."  I read TCOYF and found it so, so informative and helpful!  I got pregnant my 2nd month of charting. It obviously doesn't happen that fast for everyone - it's not a magic pill - but I am a big believer that it is an important part of the TTC process.

ETA: Regarding the lifestyle changes, I started taking prenatals (a regular prenatal, as well as non-fish source DHA, and because of the prescriptions I take my doc also wanted me on extra folic acid) a few months before we were TTC. I didn't make any other changes until I got pregnant.  At that point I stopped drinking.  I used to drink wine very regularly, and while I believe that a periodic glass is okay while you are pregnant, it just hasn't felt "right" so I haven't had anything.  And as I mentioned earlier, I was going to continue drinking coffee, but I haven't really wanted it since getting pregnant.

  • I'm still on BC and am ambivalent about going off, but mostly looking forward to it.  I have babies on the brain a bit as my 30th bday is this November, so my biological clock is ticking.  At the same time, pregnancy scares the crap out of me.  Before I started on BC my periods would make me so sick I would sometimes even throw up and was unfunctional for a few days most months.  I'm hoping getting off BC will help me lose weight and also help with my depression which will balance out the getting sick part.

We're waiting till we close (hopefully next Wednesday) and get settled into our house to reassess our finances to see if we can comfortably afford kids.  I also would like to get in better shape before we TTC.  I'm hoping that we are ready to TTC by our anniversary as I'd love to get KU on our Prague trip.  For the next couple years though we're not going to try in the sense that I track my fertility.  I know I'm the OCD type that will ruin sex because I'm fertile that day so we must have sex and also when you try too hard your body is stressed and won't get pregnant anyways.  I figure not trying will more likely mean success.  However if baby #1 is a boy I may track for #2 as I really want a girl.

  • I will preface this with DON'T JUDGE....

I went off BC right before we got engaged, I was tired of taking it and DH was fine with me being off and he knew he would be asking me to marry him soon. We used condoms for about a month maybe two and then we decided to go with "whatever happens, happens." We really started TTC a few months before the wedding (he works construction so a summer baby would be best since he works at least 40-50 hours in the summer. I won't have enough sick time to take it all paid so we will need him to have a full paycheck to survive.

After a year of trying we decided to get checked out, both are fine but still nothing. I am taking prenatals but just started taking them regularly a few weeks ago.  I had been taking the generic wal-mart brand but they were making me sick, I found that taking them at night and switching to a gentle stomach type really helped.

I have read parts of TCOYF but have not read it cover to cover. I am charting but not temping, my doctor said that it is too hard to be accurate with temping. I watch my CM and can tell when I am ovulating (always have one sided cramps).

DH and I aren't trying either.  I'm not on BC, and we don't use condoms, but I take my temp every morning at 7am and chart.  Well.. that's not true.  My thermometer charts for me, and I watch for my ovulation days--which are very regular, thankfully.  I've been taking my temperature every morning for three years now, and my thermometer stores about 2 years worth of information also.  It's pretty sweet.

Matt and I want to start trying in a couple of years.  I know he thinks about it, though.  I may be going to Finland for a few months in January, and he (joked?) about getting me pregnant before I go, so we can be sure to have a Finnish baby.  haha .... ???

  • We aren't TTC right now. We wanted at least a year of being married before even trying.

That being said, we aren't using protection (well...pulling out, so better than keeping it in I suppose lol), but if it happens we're both okay with it!

I went to the drs...she took me off BC because anxiety and the bc was making me have bp spikes :(

I'm reading TCOYF, using fert friend, and winging it with condoms and semi abstinence for now......i need to get back on my feet from the BCP and the crazy that it made me :(

  • We plan on starting to TTC in March 2012.  My sister is getting married then and I would prefer not to be pg while serving as her MOH.  My body does not handle change well and my dr. already said it may be a rough start.  Therefore we decided right after the wedding to start trying. It may also take some time if at all possible...infertility due to thyroid issues runs deep in my family.   I am not getting any younger and if we want more than one, we need to start.

  • We are trying :-)  We had been planning to wait until July on our cruise but both of our biological clocks are ticking and we realize it may not happen right away anyhow so against my doctor's advice of being off BC for 3 months and use other methods (which is very difficult) before trying we decided on mother's day weekend to really try...I thought we may have been successful before we were really trying but not yet :-(  Hopefully this month and we can tell the family at Father's day

  • We're not TTC. But I went off BC in December because after being on it for 8 years DH and I decided we really wanted to get the phony hormones out of my body. I started charting and we use condoms/abstinence. It's actually been really really difficult for me to transition to being off the BCP. The lower half of my face breaks out really bad, my chest is changing sizes so I need to buy new bras, my temps are all over the place, my periods are super irregular (like one time I got it twice in a month-super fun). It's just a real pain and theres been many times when I've been tempted to just go back on BCP. but I know this is ultimately healthier for me and I've just got to hang in there.
  • DH and I are not trying right now.  We are waiting 2-5 years.  We want our "us" time before having children.  We are not on BC, but use condoms.

We are trying right now.  I've been off the pill since Christmas, and last month was our first month of "actively" trying (aka constant sex).

I've been taking prenatal vitamins since I went off the pill, and I'm trying to cut out pop and caffeine.
