Moms: am I crazy to try this?

Matt and I would love to host Christmas day brunch at our house for his family (8 adults, 1 child- including us).  At that point, I will be approx. 3 weeks from my EDD.  Do you think I'd be too tired to do this or is it not that big a deal?

Thanks!

Re: Moms: am I crazy to try this?

  • i think its a more you know your body and self best....

i worked up until the day before i had the boys and that was motherday... one of if not the biggest holiday for florists and busted my ass... but i felt good i didnt push myself, kwim?  but i have also been told im insane as i was back at work with vinny when he was 5 days old....

  • I agree with Kim. It completely depends on how you feel and what you think you can handle.

If I were you I would do it. I was feeling amazing 3 weeks out and didn't let anything slow me down.

  • I agree with the previous ladies...if you feel OK and think you can handle it...why not.  I was feeling fine 3 weeks to due date.  I wouldn't make anything too ambitious but brunch shouldn't be too too hard!  Good Luck!
  • The only thing about planning something like that is you never know if you'll have the baby early. A lot of people go 3-4 weeks early but besides that you most likely would be fine. I felt GREAT right up until the end and stayed out unitl 2am at a wedding on my due date.

  • You never know is right. ?I really felt great, but my high BP and some other issues warranted me taking it super-easy the last 3-4 weeks, per my doc. ?He wanted me off my feet. ?Hopefully you won't have any issues like that, but have a back up plan just in case!
  • I think you'll be fine.  You'll have most of the stuff done ahead of time, and people will probably be willing to bring something, so you shouldn't be too crazy.

However, I planned a surprise 30th for DH 3 weeks before my due date (due date was 10/19, party was 10/1), and I had the baby 9/29!!  I was SO glad I didn't rent a hall for the party!  I came home on 10/1 and we still had people over for cake!

  • I wouldn't have wanted to... But I really think that it's up to you. Depending on what you expect to need to do/cook/etc. At the same time, if it's a tradition that you want to start, go for it! Also, maybe it would be good to have it set at your house, so you wouldn't have to go anywhere that day. Lots of thoughts :) Hope something someone says helps!
  • ohh don't even get me started thinking about the holidays!  I'd say do a pot luck and have everyone bring something...that way you aren't stuck doing all the cleaning and the cooking.
