HELP Internet Virgins

So...I have now been married for 9 months and we are looking into internet options, but have NO IDEA where to get it cheap.

We have verizon cell phones, no landline, and were looking at the MiFi moble hotspot, but they are pretty expensive and I'm worried that the foreign exchange student we'll be hosting in a few months will burn through the 5GB limit Skyping with Family back in Germany really fast...

Please recommend an internet provider that doesn't require a landline !!!!

Re: HELP Internet Virgins

  • We have Qwest & no landline. I would call some of your local providers, you should be able to get just internet (not a bundle) pretty easily.

  • Most DSL companies are required to offer DSL even if you don't have a landline. They don't like to publicize this obviously because they want you to sign up for phone service, but you don't have to.

  • We also have Qwest with no landline. I don't know what's in your area though. When we lived in Chicago we had AT&T/SBC DSL and you didn't need a landline either. It's cheaper if you do, but then you have to pay for a landline of course. Another option would be internet through your cable provider. You may not need to have cable service through them to get the internet service. Before we got Qwest we had Cox internet without the cable tv service.
  • I Agree! inquire details for Qwest. I have been using that too!
  • Comcast (our cable TV provider) has high speed internet for $45 a month - you don't have to get any other services, either.  Looks like they're still having a deal where you could get it for $20/month for 6 months, too.  To my knowledge, they don't have limits to the amount of data you can download - they just don't want you hosting your own servers with massive uploads.  It's worth checking out, if Comcast/Xfinity is in your area.
