House Warming Party

My husband and I move into our first home this weekend. (Yay!) I want to throw a house warming party so that all of our friends and family have a chance to see how we painted the rooms, decorated, etc. When is too late to throw one? A month after move-in? Also, is an open house atmosphere appropriate?

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Re: House Warming Party

  • We have been in our home for 3 months now and havent had a house warming yet. I'm not sure what protocol there should be regarding a timeline for hosting a housewarming. I think a couple months is a resonable timeline as you have to unpack and do any reno's or painting as you suggested and that all takes time. We are just finishing our home reno's

  • Unless you are doing major renovations I'd say under 6 months.  If you are gutting the place take lots of pictures and have the party when you are done.  Then put out all of the pics!

I'd definitely go open house.  I'd designate someone to give tours (a husband is good for this) then ask your mom or a close friend to help you watch food/drinks.

  • We bought our house March 23, moved in last weekend and are having a open house on june 11.  We have been doing a lot of renovating, so the house has been a complete mess and we haven't been able to have people over.  Actually, I'm not sure it'll be ready in time for the party but invites are already out!

I think a month is a good amount of time, because you want to be able to get settled in and put everything away before you have a bunch of people over.

  • We moved in Sept. 26 and had a housewarming/holiday party Dec. 18, so almost 3 months later.

You'll need time to unpack, get settled, decorate, etc., so I don't think anyone will expect a party right away.
