2nd cold and ultrasound ?

So, I am on my second cold this pregnancy.  I have been coughing up a bit of mucus (sorry) in the AM, and been a little congested in my sinuses, but not too bad.  The cold doesn't bother me much, so I have not sought out anything yet, but I am wondering something.  I have had a cold in the 1st tri, and now in the 2nd tri (gotta love group daycare) and I have read differing opinions of this on pregnancy.  Will lots of colds (esp if you have one in the first tri) affect the babe?  I was prescribed a Zpac for the 1st tri one, but declined taking, and just struggled through.  We have our ultrasound next week, and I am wondering if the cold did cause any problems, would we see anything then?

  • I wouldn't think a cold would cause any problems, especially if there wasn't a fever.  Plus since you didn't take meds, I really think you have nothing to worry about (not that that will stop the worry, I understand!) As for seeing problems...IF there were any anatomical problems they are visible at the 20 week u/s.  That is when all of James' were found.  Good luck and feel better!  I have a cold too and boy does it suck!

I had the worst cold of my life during the second half of my first tri/first half of my second tri with Sophia that ended up in an ear infection and resistant sinus infection.  I also had a horrible cold for the last month of my pregnancy with her. She is perfectly healthy other than ear infections as an infant.  I also had a horrible cold first tri this time around and so far everything is looking great with the little man.

I did take meds all three times as I just couldn't take it anymore.   At that point the benefits far, FAR outweighed the slight risks.

  • Okay- PHEW- that makes me feel better.  I only read one study (seriously, they should parental guard my webmd) that looked like there may be problems with colds in the first tri, but it looked more like if you had a fever.  I haven't thus far.  My DH thinks I am nuts, but things change when you get pregnant!  I use to never see a doctor- even for stuff that I really should have- and now I am running Kellen there a lot!  My dad said that we never went to the doctor as kids, and look how we turned out (not a great indicator, dad :)), I think I can just take a little imagination and run wild with it!!!  It's my right brain for ya!  Thanks for the feedback.  I swear, if I had a nickel for everything I worried about....  I better get a hobby :)

I just told DH Saturday that my brain will come up with something to worry about no matter what I do.  This weekend it was that I don't know how to take care of two kids on my own.  Hello, I did it for nearly two years!!!
