Question about Bat Houses

Does anyone use them?

I'm in Southern CA where we don't really have a lot of mosquitoes, so I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile here.

My H wants to build ours, so we don't have any yet, but a neighbor across the street has a few and they work for them.  I can't wait for ours since mosquitoes love me and we have a lot of them in central IL.

  • I don't have one now, but was really close to making one last spring when we had TONS of little brown bats. Then some jerk told my landlord where the roost was.... and they haven't come back since then. Angry

But I would say definitely go for it if your conditions are right!

  • I am DEFINETELY going to install one once we're in a more rural area.  We are firmly in suburbia, and I wouldn't want to attract bats here b/c I'm worried something would happen to them (pesticides, dogs, etc....).

  • We have one, we have bats, but no bats in our bat house.  Sad  We think it's too close to the ground where we have it, and it's only in the sun for the first 1/2 of the day, so once we have our fireplace checked, we're going to move it there.  Much more bat friendly.
