I am trying to figure out how to organize all the toiletries in my bathrooms' narrow linen closets. Hair accessories, makeup, feminine hygiene products, skin care, qtips, cotton balls, etc... It is all over the place and a horrible mess.
What have been some of your organization secrets? I would love to have a well-planned and organized linen closet that could even hold *gasp* towels and other linens!
Re: closet storage solutions
When we moved into this house I lost all my drawers and medicine cabinet that my old bathroom had and now it's just one closet with shelves. I ordered a dozen of these, and use those in the closet to organize the small stuff so it's easy to get in/out, put by category, etc. This way bottles, tiny things - they all go into a basket.
I also bought an extra skinny drawer thing like 10 years ago that fits next to the toilet to hold more stuff. No clue who makes it or if it's even still available, but I found it at a modern office store in Manhattan. Maybe you need a field trip to come shopping? ;-)
And I use the same plastic baskets as above under my sink for storage too.

I have a closet maid shelf rack that goes on the door. Goes from the top to the bottom, and probably has about 6-8 shelfs. Love it for hairspray, bottles of stuff, etc.

Also have one that is a little bigger on our pantry door.
We have a built in cabinet in the wall in our bathroom. Its very deep and has 3 shelves. I bought these http://www.amazon.com/Sterilite-23108004-Stackable-Storage-Drawer/dp/B0042FW4JE/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1306196117&sr=8-15
and labeled them. I have one for all my toiletries, DH has his own. There is one for strictly OTC medicines and first aid, and there is one for baby stuff. Then I have a smaller one with 3 drawers like this http://www.amazon.com/Sterilite-Corp-Drawer-Counter-20038006/dp/B0000E1V69/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1306196247&sr=8-19 with drawers labeled for hair accessories and one for nails. That stuff is on one shelf, and the towels take up the rest of them.
I keep my feminine products under the sink in the vanity cupboard with bathroom cleaning supplies, and soaps, body washes, hair dryer, etc with a child proof cabinet door lock on it.
Hope this helps!
I love all your ideas ladies, and those are all things I've looked at online. Problem I'm running into is that I really haven't found a basket/bin/drawer unit that will maximize my space. Most are too long for my closet, or would otherwise be awkward in my space. But, maybe if I get creative I'll be able to work something out.
