I need some help. I ended up in charge of decorating the stage/gym for our 8th grade graduation Thursday night. We wanted to go for something different than the
usual balloons, but of course we have almost no budget. School colors
are silver-blue-black.
I have had blue vases since (ahem) our wedding, still with tons of blue/white flowers, which I just took apart. I found the spiky things (whatever they're called) at Hobby Lobby.
The first pic is last year, to get an idea of the stage. The black fabric will be up again this year, hopefully looking better. We will have silver "2011" and either silver or blue shiny fabric coming from the sides, a little different than last year.
Stage:
I was thinking of something like this on top of little stands (covered w/ black fabric) where the balloons are. It would have black/silver ribbon and silver filler in the vase. It's about 3' tall.
I also have these, which would be for the food/cake areas. Also with the black/silver ribbon & silver filler.
I guess I'm wondering if they are "young" enough if I have some funky ribbon, or should I ditch the flowers completely?
....I'm still not sure how a decorating noob got put in charge of this.... ::sigh::
Re: Graduation decorations (PIP)
I think what you have can work, but even though 3ft tall, might get lost on that HUGE stage. I don't think you have to worry about it be young enough, they're fine. And work well on the cake table too.
Because you have that giant balck curtain, why don't you try decorating that? Would it be possible to print out black and white photos of the graduating students (maybe the yearbook/newspaper staff would be a good resource) and pinning the photos to the black curtain to make a great big 2,0,1,1? The photos can be printed on regular paper on a school printer.
To see what I mean, look at the animation that pops up on www.oprah.com/.
See how all the images from past shows make the number 3.
I think it's definitely inexpensive to do, just not sure how feasible it is by Thursday. If you can't do photos, maybe you can print the students names on the paper in the different school colors and use those sheets to make up the 2,0,1,1. Could you maybe have a couple of 7th graders help with the actual pinning to the curtain on Wednesday after school?
