question for moms who used formula

Hey ladies!  I have breastfed and pumped Kiley, and am still continuing to do so.  I have had to supplement a few bottles of formula here and there when I do not have enough milk, due to a huge drop in supply.  Anyway we had a few sample cans that I have used over the past few months. I was curious as to how long 1 can of formula lasts you? I know it probably depends on size of bottles, etc.  But I just wanted to stock up for a few months of a few bottles here and there.  Thanks for any help!

I would get the small cans if you're not going to be using it a lot, because it has to be used within so many days of opening (30?). Nicholas never drank more than 5oz at a time, so a small can of Similac made him 19 bottles.
  • Ditto PP and also the food bank won't take cans of formula. I tried to donate it or just to give it away, no takers... so I wouldn't waste your money.

I also wanted to chime in, the Target brand formula, in the small can is just the same as Simalac, El couldn't tell a difference, and it saved us money. I liked it better than the Walmart's Parents Choice brand.

  • It depended.  When C was 3-7 months when he wasn't eating much food yet but was taking full 8 oz bottles several times a day, we were going through at least one of the largest canisters of formula each week (then we had another one at daycare that would last 1-2 weeks).  After he could eat food, the formula consumption dropped a little but we still gave at least 1 bottle a day until 1 year.  I would think even with breast feeding what you can and food consumption you would still use up at least 1 large canister of formula before a you guys hit the year mark.
