Party updates

I had 3 couples and their kids over for dinner last week.  Things went really, really well.  I made chicken kabobs, roasted potatoes, and a spinach salad for the meal.  The weather has been gross, but we were able to sit on the screened in porch.  Each couple has one kid plus our 2 (the oldest is ours at 2) so I set up a little area in the porch with toys and such for the kids to play while we ate.

We put the baby swings on the swingset and some big blankets in the gazebo.  Then sat outside and had dessert- peach sorbet, pound cake, and grilled peaches.  Mmmmm.  The laughter of little kids and the splash of our almost finished water feature were the best background music.  We've been doing some major landscaping in the past 2 years that is ALMOST done.  When it is I'm going to do a block party.

The next party is our daughter's baptism.  I e-mailed the caterer our menu last night- chicken in a light cream sauce, parslied potatoes, fruit salad, california medly, rolls, and peaches and cream cheesecake.  I'm still amazed the caterer provides all of that plus coffee, tea, and lemonade for $9 a person.  I'm going to fill in with a pasta salad, tossed/spinach salad, deviled eggs, and a chocolate cake.  I'll also add wine, beer, soda, and some juice boxes.

The caterer will have everything set up and ready for when we get back from church, so I'm debating if I need any apps.  If I do I was just thinking a cheese platter and some pretzel mix.  Thoughts on the baptism menu?

Re: Party updates

  • Hi!  Your dinner party sounded awesome.  Wish you lived near me... I'd come to your block party with my kids :)  Also - do you put anything on the peaches before you grill them?  About how long on the grill?

Re: the Baptism menu.  I think it is great.  I also don't think you need the cheese platter or chex mix - since everyone will be coming right from church and will be ready for a meal. It is wonderful she can do that for $9 - here it would be probably 24.00 to 30.00.  I've also been noticing a lot of inflation and higher bills at the grocery store - but that might just be our situation as well.

    Have fun!

  • I cut them in half and brushed a little olive oil on the cut side.  DH grilled them, but I want to say between 10 and 15 mins depending on ripeness.
  • Great - Thanks!
  • I wouldn't worry about apps.  The menu sounds nice as is, great that you got it for such a good price!
  • Hey, sorry for being so late to respond.  We've been abroad for vacation for the past 10 days and I forgot about this on the rare moments we had cell service ;)

The dinner sounds really nice!  The menu reads really well together.  Were the potatoes good?

I seriously cannot believe the deal you're getting for the baptism.  What a steal!  My only thought would be to put the pasta salad not in a mayo base since you have creamed chicken and cheesecake both already.  I think a cheese plate and pretzels sound great.
