S/O AC- ugh

Ours is not working properly.  DH set it to 71 overnight and it's still 78 in the house. crapcrapcrapcrapcrap! 

I am worried we are going to need a whole new AC unit.  ugh. I am terrified to think about what it might cost.

ours was doing this one year and our friend (who is a HVAC repair guy) came and basically gave it a tune up. I was also worried that we would need a new unit but luckily that did the trick fine. I'm not sure what was involved, but I think he put new freon in, cleaned the coils, etc.......

yeah - you might just need freon or to have it serviced/tuned up.

I hope it just needs a tune-up/service, but I worry because I think that our unit was at least 10, maybe 12, and that was 3 years ago.

I wish we could have gone geothermal when we had to replace our furnace when we moved in!

The first time we turned ours on last year (the first time ever since we bought the house) it did this.  The unit actually froze.  It just needed a tune-up and everything.  Our unit is about 13 or so years old, so I'm super scared for when it finally does die, but it's been working great ever since.

Our unit is the original one that came with our house....circa 1978....so don't give up hope guys.

Ugh, I'm sorry.  We went through that and after we finally got a new unit, we are so much happier.  It's amazing how much better it works, let alone the cost savings on our energy bills by having a well working unit.
