S/O AC- ugh

Ours is not working properly.  DH set it to 71 overnight and it's still 78 in the house. crapcrapcrapcrapcrap!

I am worried we are going to need a whole new AC unit.  ugh. I am terrified to think about what it might cost.

Re: S/O AC- ugh

  • ours was doing this one year and our friend (who is a HVAC repair guy) came and basically gave it a tune up. I was also worried that we would need a new unit but luckily that did the trick fine. I'm not sure what was involved, but I think he put new freon in, cleaned the coils, etc.......

  • yeah - you might just need freon or to have it serviced/tuned up.

  • I hope it just needs a tune-up/service, but I worry because I think that our unit was at least 10, maybe 12, and that was 3 years ago.

I wish we could have gone geothermal when we had to replace our furnace when we moved in!

  • The first time we turned ours on last year (the first time ever since we bought the house) it did this.  The unit actually froze.  It just needed a tune-up and everything.  Our unit is about 13 or so years old, so I'm super scared for when it finally does die, but it's been working great ever since.

  • Ugh, I'm sorry.  We went through that and after we finally got a new unit, we are so much happier.  It's amazing how much better it works, let alone the cost savings on our energy bills by having a well working unit.
