drapery rods?

I'm finally going to get some curtains up in this joint.  :-)  My last home was outfitted with ones from Christmas Tree Shop.  While they functioned well, they weren't too sturdy.  We had to leave them when we moved.  Which is a crock of baloney, but that's for another day.

I was thinking of taking a trip to Ikea, athough their website isn't too promising.  I'm willing to spend a little bit of money for nicer ones, but can't justify $80 for simple PB ones.  ((sigh))

Where have you had luck?

Re: drapery rods?

  • Our fanciest rod came from some store online. It's a traverse rod above a sliding double door. It was over $100, but several hundred less than what we found at the Curtain Shoppes in South Portland.

I think all of our other rods actually came from Walmart or Christmas Tree Shops. Like you, I didn't want to send a lot. So I spent money on the heavily used rods and went cheap on all of the others.

I guess I'm no help. LOL!

  • What's your style?  Ikea really only has modern design.  If you don't see what you like on their website, they aren't going to have it in store (unless you just want to take a trip to Ikea, which I can totally get behind).

We hardly have any drapes (most windows in our house just have blinds) but places I've shopped for curtain rods in the past include Walmart, Target, Christmas Tree Shops, Lowes, Bed Bath & Beyond, and JCPenney.  JCPenney in particular often carries Pottery Barn-esq furniture for a fraction of the cost -- they might have what you're looking for in curtain rods, too.

P.S. belated congrats on the new job!

  • Christmas Tree Shop and Big Lots is where all of our rods are from.

  • My mom makes custom drapes, so we have a lot of custom ones up, just by luck. But the rod in Luke's room I like a lot, very sturdy and pretty, we got it at KMart. It was more than the cheapo's but still pretty cheap. The rest of our rods are the simple basics that you don't ever see, the curtains cover them up.

Maybe choose a couple key locations in your house where you'd like a more spiffy rod and then bedrooms and such are easily outfitted with cheaper ones.
