Grad announcements?

I don't graduate until December, but I'm think about these things now b/c I know I'll have to purchase stuff now since there will be little (if anything) available that's graduation related then.  Should I send announcements since I'm graduating with a master's?  I would only be sending to our immediate family and maybe a few friends. I have worked so hard for this (longggg story) and I know that everyone is really proud of me.  DH has already said he wants to have a graduation party for me b/c he obviously knows the long hard struggle I've had. Again, it would just be immediate family and friends.  I honestly don't want gifts or money, but I know that it's inappropriate to even mention on the invitation (so I better make sure DH knows that!)

Re: Grad announcements?

  • Congrats on being so close!! I'm finally graduating with my BS in 18 days (but who's counting??)  and its the same situation in my fam, only my grandpa and one aunt have graduated from college, so its a big deal in my family. I was trying to decide to order announcements or not, and ultimately decided on not. I could have spent the money, but $100 for 25 announcements, even though I can very easily call/text/email those same people and most of them will either be at the grad ceremony or coming to the party, I figured why bother? But I completely understand wanting to get them, and the excitement and proud/accomplished feelings, so if the $100 isn't going to be an issue, go for it! It's fun and will help encourage you especially at crunch time near the end!
  • We ordered my sister's announcements from Mixbook...they were GORGEOUS and so unique. We did the annoucement on the front and the invitation to open house on the back.

  • I would.

I don't think that people will assume that you're expecting a gift.  I sent mine because I was really excited to be graduating, not because I wanted gifts.  If you're excited and proud (which you should be!), and the cost of them isn't an issue, then go for it!

  • Thanks all!  I'm definitely going to do this.  I think I'll look for some printable announcements to save a little money.  My cousin made her own for graduation and they were very pretty!

  • I sent out announcements and had a party for my J.D., and I thought it was totally appropriate. Your family will be proud of you and will want to know the details!  If you are looking to save money, you might check the official campus bookstore to see if they have any printable paper.  I found 8x12 paper with an embossed picture of the campus bell tower in one corner, so you could print whatever you wanted and fold the paper in fourths to make a card.  I saved a ton of money and they looked pretty professional.  I think the announcements/invites I made cost about $30 for 75.
