Well my U/S didn't go as I hoped. They think I may have an ectopic. But it might be too early to tell since my betas were only 32 last monday, which they said should put them around 1000 today and they said they need to be 1500-2000 for them to see a yolk typically. So that was pretty disenheartening to hear. 
We are going to Tampa this weekend because H's family is down and we were going to tell them.... now, probably not! I have to go back on Tues for another U/S though, so I will know either way by then. I guess I will just be sad/stressed/wondering until then!

They said there was something on the left side that looked like it could have blood flow. But nothing in the uterus.
I guess I am unsure by the "earlier than expected" term. I def know when my last period was. Do you know how far along you were when this happened??
Thanks for sharing though, it makes me feel better that it might just be timing. The OB did say that she would have never ordered an US for today after seeing my betas at 32 last monday, but they scheduled my US the same day my betas were taken.
Yeah I am 5w2d, but I didnt O until day 19 so it might still just be too early. They did both US, but the "dido-cam" is where they saw it with. Seriously I was looking at that thing and thinking... Is that a condom they put over it??? LOL

This happened to me, too. I had several U/S to Dx the pregnancy, and all of them were at least coded as a threatened M/C. At the first, they didn't see anything since I tested so early (I ovulated while on BCP, so I didn't know when I had ovulated, or how far pregnant I was...turns out I'm pretty in touch with my body.)
The first one, they didn't see anything. The second, they saw one little spot, and a little dark spot next to it; the next one, I saw two little commas dancing around.
Do you know what your betas were today?
I'm sorry you are going through this. It's definitely WAY too early. My originsl OB refused to even do an ultrasound until I was AT LEAST 6 weeks. I was spotting, but she said there was no way to see anything that would confirm the pregnancy before 6 weeks.
I'll keep you in my prayers.

Gosh, that really sucks. I wish there was something I could say to make it all better. But sadly, only time will heal your pain.

Oh I re-read your post and I think I responded wrong. Whoops, sorry!
When I was pregnant with Macy I wasn't sure when I conceived since my periods were wonky. Well according to my last period I should have been 8 weeks along. When I went in for my first US they changed the date to 5w2d. I was nervous too, but luckily I was too dumb/naive to really freak out about it. Thank goodness I didn't put too much weight into because when I went back the following week I was progressing on track. And again for my 8w ultrasound and 12w one.
So I don't want to fill you with false hope but don't completely give up hope yet!
