Fifth's Disease

Does anyone have any experience with this?  Ava's gymnastics teacher just called to let me know that another little girl in the class before her has it and the dad called to let everyone know.  I guess it's really bad for pregnant women to be exposed to as well.

I called my dr and they are sending me for blood work tomorrow.  Awesome.  As if I haven't been through enough already :-/

Re: Fifth's Disease

  • The only thing I know about it is that's its bad for pregnant gals...but...you already know that! Fingers crossed that you don't have it!!!

Ditto. I had it when I was in fifth grade, but basically I just had to stay out of the sun.

  • I don't know much about the pregnant end of it, but Quinn had it.  He ran a slight fever for a day or two and had a rash on his head/neck.  If the rash shows up that means it has already mostly run its course. Besides the fever, it didn't seem to bother him too much.  I hope all turns out okay for you guys!
  • When I worked for the pediatricians it was going around.  I know that there's no treatment for it, and that it's bad for pregnant women.  Keeping my fingers crossed for you - KUP!

  • I am an elementary school teacher and I was exposed to it during one of my pregnancies.  I believe my OB said it is more risky in the first trimester.  I hope everything turns out fine.  I will be thinking about you.

  • Ugh!! I got it from the kids I nannied for 2 weeks before my wedding. It is a lacey looking rash. Nothing too serious from what I remember.
