From:
This month we let you know that legislators in three states ? influenced by Big Agriculture ? were trying to criminalize taking photos or videos of farm facilities. Inhumane and unhealthy conditions are present in our food system, and keeping that information from the public won?t make them go away. We wanted to use this as an opportunity to lift up the good, clean and fair farmers who like consumers to come and see exactly how their food is produced.
Nearly 33,000 people signed our petition to stand up for transparency and the right to take pictures of farms. Over 400 people ? many of them farmers ? took it one step further and uploaded pictures of farms to our Facebook wall.
Since then, the bill has failed in Florida and will hopefully fail in Minnesota and Iowa in the coming weeks. We?ve been using these petition signatures and this gorgeous gallery of farm photos to pressure key legislators in Iowa and Minnesota to stop these "ag-gag" bills from passing. Who can resist these two pigs in a bucket?
Click here to see a slideshow of some of the farmarazzi photos we received. There are dancing goats, mud-bathing pigs, newborn chicks, and much more ?.
Re: farm photo bills are dropping like flies
Between this bill, the same-sex marriage amendment that will be on the ballot next year and Michelle Bachmann, I'm embarrassed to be from Minnesota. I really hope people don't think this is what our state is all about.
I really, really hope this bill doesn't pass but we have some powerful legislators with financial interest in the bill who just happen to oversee the related committees. With the way things have been going in our state, it wouldn't surprise me if it passes. It's even more disheartening because we actually have quite a strong local food movement with tons of farmer's markets, co-ops and restaurants that use local foods.
