DHs family is coming over on Saturday to eat and enjoy the day.
Im making pulled pork bbq sandwiches and macaroni salad.
MIL called to day to inform us she's bringing: Cole slaw, chili dip and chips, baked beans, a bucket of fried chicken, angel food cake and strawberries.
Ummmm...whats the point of me even trying to cook and have them over if she's bringing it all?! Im a little pissed she just took over almost everything, and of course DH wont speak up and tell her no. I have a hunch she's bringing the chicken bc they wont eat the pulled pork. Why do I even try?
Im making these, and I dont care that she's hogged bringing dessert :P
Re: ugh, weekend vent.
Maybe you should talk to her?
I could see my MIL doing that (if we lived in the same town), but she would do it because she genuinely wants to help. She wouldn't see it at all as stepping on the toes of the hostess (even though that's essentially what she's doing). Maybe it would help if you talked to her, thanked her for being willing to bring over so much stuff, but really...you were already planning on making x, y, and z, and she really doesn't need to go to all the trouble of bringing all of that.
Even if she still brings everything, you'd be sticking up for yourself.
Then next time you host something, call her to invite her and say, "This is something we'd really like to do for you, so please allow us to host and provide all the food!"

She wont talk to me...when she calls she only talks to DH. But, Im hoping she calls today and I will tell her Im making cupcakes and the baked beans like I had planned. If she wants all that other stuff, thats fine. Shes the one having to go through all the trouble of bringing it all the way here when its really not needed.
And next time, I will make sure we tell her that we want to do this, host and provide the food for them
Thanks Carrie, you are always so helpful and calm about any situation!

My mom made them for our birthday parties at school when we were kids. She was always so creative!
