Crib Prices

Is $200 reasonable for a crib?  I have no idea.  I don't want to seem like a spoiled brat and ask for outrageously priced furniture.

Re: Crib Prices

  • Ours was 100 from ikea my parents gifted us a set amount of money for the nursery, i almost blew it all on a crib but considering he sleeps in the cosleeper im glad i didnt! I think 200 is a good price as long as you are willing to buy it for yourself if you don't get it as a gift.

yeah that's a really good price, especially if it's a convertible.

  • I refused to buy an expensive crib.  We ended up with a convertible but I'm pretty sure this kid isn't going to be using this as his furniture his whole life so I felt no need to splurge on it.  I just made sure I got one that was safe and looked nice.

I spent around $170 and got our crib at Walmart.  I hate Walmart with a passion but I read the Baby Bargains book and they explained that the crib manufacturers will sell the same crib to different stores but use a different brand name depending on the store.  So at BRU the crib has a fancy Italian name, yet the same crib will be at a store like Walmart with a plain name for hundreds cheaper.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of those convertible cribs.  They are such huge peices of furniture, and I have known  three people who have never converted them.  Plus you have to purchase parts to convert them!

I really love those old school Jenny Lind cribs, and it's running about $200 on every website I look at.   I didn't want to put it on my registry and have people think "really $200?  Get real".  I am so not in my element with this whole registry stuff.

  • Love the Jenny style!
  • We bought the crib ourselves, but we have had family members call saying they want to take us out for "big ticket items" and had no problem buying things that had a bigger price tag. IMO, 200 for a crib is a pretty good price. I think after the 20% off coupon, mine was around that. Love the crib BTW
  • 200$ is a good price for a crib.  I've never understood why people will 800-900$ for a furniture set for a baby...  We got the Graco Lauren crib from Target for 160$ with a free matching changing table.  If you watch the Target/Walmart/Baby Depot circulars sometimes they'll offer the matching extras (changing table, dresser) for a reduced rate when you buy the crib.
