Rave: Lewiston Public Works

Okay, so I admit-- I've had a little tiff with the Public Works folks once before about their street-cleaning practices (which seem to have been amended this year-- yay!) but I am so happy with them right now.

I went to pay my water/sewage bill and they were super friendly. Then, I asked about getting free fill and how would I know how much to ask for on their form and the woman called a guy, who came right down and asked me if I wanted him to swing by my house and take a look. Seriously? Right now? On what is normally people's lunch hour? Yes, please!

A lovely man spent almost 30 minutes walking around my property talking amounts, drainage, utility, cost estimates, etc. And then was surprised when I thanked him for being so helpful and so nice. I have his business card and his number in case I need anything further.

This kind of pleasant customer service is why I moved to Maine in the first place! Back in CT, I was lucky if anyone answered the phone, let alone answered my questions or offered to come out and take a look.

I big puffy heart Mainers!

Re: Rave: Lewiston Public Works

  • Awww! Good job, LPW! It's so refreshing when you find someone so helpful and so pleasant about it. So many get jaded by the number of complaining kind of people. I think it's the same in any type of service field. Finding someone who has gotten past that is awesome.

I'm trying not to be jaded. Really trying. *humph*

  • That's the very reason I try to be extra pleasant and also to let folks who are being helpful and pleasant know that I appreciate their efforts!

    Must encourage it!

This! I'm pleasent in hopes they'll return it and if not, whatever they wont ruin my day!

Free fill, yes please! Not in this neck of the woods though, even with only paying cost (no delivery since DH's cousin is an excavator) we are paying an arm and a leg for fill and loam right now :(

  • The guy I spoke to said that often you can get really inexpensive fill (50 cents a yard) if you get something called "pond" or "lake" (I forget which) something or other. I can't remember what he said but it's good for nothing else but fill...
