Baby Shower Question

My cousin is having a baby shower and my family (aunts, sisters, mom & grandmother & I) have all put in money.  I'm going to buy the gift later this week.  My question is:

We are 100% getting her travel system (stroller) she registered for.  We have plenty left over to get several other items too OR I could get her stroller & her swing & then one or two other smaller items.

What would you do?  I know those are her two big ticket items on her registry - but I'm not sure if she would prefer smaller items along with the travel system.

Re: Baby Shower Question

  • It's hard to say.  I had a child that hated the swing so it never got used.  However, who's to say my next child won't love it.  If you think getting the swing along with the travel system is something she would really love then do that.  What small items were you considering?  I think I would need to know that to give you a better answer.

  • I probably just get her the travel system and let the dads family have a chance to purchase the other big ticket item (if it is a joint family shower).  What are the other items?  I kind of like it when gifts "match" if htey are from a group.  Are there accessories to the travel system?

  • What are the other smaller items?

I always buy practical so I know it'll be used.  Of course some kids like the swings (both my kids did), but some don't.

You could buy the stroller & get a gift card w/the rest of the money, that way she could use it where she has a need when all her showers are over.

  • The other items I am considering:

    High Chair
    Diaper Bag
    Tummy Time Mat
    Tummy Time Mirror
    Izbeen Timer
    Tub
(then the shampoo/soap/lotion - kneeler pad & rinser to add on with it)

She has a lot of smaller items on here as well - the teethers, pacifiers, bottles, nipples, a few toys, bibs...

You could get her the Diaper bag & put some items in it that she'd need: teether, pacifier, wipes etc.  Someone put one of those Diaper Bag Disnpensers & refills in mine & I loved it (since I hadn't heard of it before).

  • I'd probably go for the bigger items- that's usually why people go in on a group gift is to get the things that one person alone wouldn't be able to.  If you start getting a bunch of smaller items, then it limits the things available that the single shoppers can afford.  Or I like the idea of putting the remainder on a gift card.  Things like the mattress pad generally don't get bought because they're kind of boring gifts to buy.  Not to mention it's always nice to have extra money for after the baby is here to buy diapers and formula/bf supplies

  • I say get the bigger items.  More than likely, her registry will get mostly bought anyway, so the smaller items can get saved for people that aren't planning to spend a lot on her gift.

  • I agree with ppl to get the larger items and a few smaller.  I think family or groups are who usually buys the larger ticket items.  Leave the smaller items for friends who aren't spending as much.
