f/u to Patty - need camera recs

Sooooo

My sister is moving overseas for a year!!  Her bday is coming up and I was thinking of suggesting that we chip in for a camera.  I was thinking something in between a canon rebel and DSLR - is there such a thing?  I want her to be able to take some really quality photos so that she can remember - possibly frame - some of her pictures.

TIA ladies!!

Re: f/u to Patty - need camera recs

  • An entry level DSLR would be a great present for her.  There are some less expensive ones out there that, once people chip in, become pretty affordable.  I would look at a Nikon d3000 (selling for $469 with an 18-55 zoom lens on bhphotovideo.com) or a Canon Rebel T1i (selling for $679 with canon version of 18-55 lens).  I am a Nikon person so I really strongly recommend going in that direction.  You could also step up the camera level by looking into a used or refurbished body (refurbs are used cameras that have been returned to company specs status at the factory).  They have a refurbished d3000 for 329.95 for example.
