Budget-friendly gift for graduation...

Hello Ladies! I am in need of suggestions for my brother's graduation gift. He is 18 and graduating high school a week from today. He's going to a community college to study carpentry/wood making. DH & I are on a budget, but I still want to get my brother something special/meaningful. Any ideas?

TIA! :)

  • what about some sort of fun experience i.e. rafting? Watch out on Groupon for a steal!

  • I would ask the parents if they know of any tools/accessories he would really like to have for his degree (new tool belt?).  Or if there is a particular store he likes to buy things related to that.  For example, when my H graduated from college (we were dating), my parents got him a nice stethoscope because he was applying for medical school.  It shows you want to support him in his future career :)

ETA: lol somehow I forgot you said it was your brother.  So by "the parents" I guess I mean your parents... or maybe there is a way for you to find out.  Good luck!

  • haha. Thanks! DH & I actually bought him a new tool belt for Christmas, but I will talk to "the parents" about any tools he might like. :)
  • I bought my brother the book "101 Things to Do with Ramen Noodles" and a case of ramen noodles.

    this is awesome!

  • It may seem a little impersonal, but what about a gift card to Home Depot or Lowe's or someplace similar where he can get wood/his own tools?

Is there a "big" gift he'd want/need? Could you and your parents go in together on something?

When our close family friend's son graduated high school, I got him a "college survival kit" -- a two-pound bag of M&Ms (his favorite), a six pack of Red Bull, and Taco Bell gift certificates. He thought it was hyseterical, since it was all things he loved to eat anyway and (as he said) "Sweet! Now I can have it without spending my own money for a while!"
