  • Urg, work reading...booooring!  I recently finished a very boring book about reading strategies for the reading leadership committee I'm on.  I am so glad that's over!

What types of books do you like? Tell me something you've read and liked and I'll see if I can give you some suggestions.

  • I'm currently reading Basketball Junkie. So far it's really good. It's a true story about this kid that grew up a couple towns away from me. He made it to the NBA & ruined everything he had because of a drug addiction. He's now clean & doing a lot for the community. He's just a few years older than me, so I remember when all this was happening with him. He was a local celebrity. Now, people either love or hate him around here. My BFF are in total disagreement on him. I say good for him, he turned his life around. She says what an A hole, he was given everything, including help & he blew it away, literally.

  • I'm currently reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which is non-fiction.  Its very interesting, although some of the biology stuff is difficult (its about a woman whose cells were taken without her permission in the 1950s and are still multiplying today). I'm also reading Radical for my Bible study.

Coming up on my list is Rebecca (I try to read 1 or 2 classics a year and my mom was named after this book, so I thought I should read it), Outlander (thanks K8), and I'll be rereading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows before the movie comes out.

  • Bossypants by TIna Fey- funny!
  • The womanly art of breastfeeding, The birth partners handbook oh and re reading the Stephanie Plum series from Janet Evanovich (starts with 1 for the money)

I am going to go see if I can get this book and start it on Monday!  I am kind of excited to read it (I started reading it on the Kindle demo at Target the other day, lol.)

  • I am reading The Scapel and the Soul currently for my book club's June pick .  Not something I would normally read, but it is easy to get through and insightful.

I just picked up three books from the library tonight though:  The Glass Castle (yeah, I know I'm late on this one), The Secret Life of Bees (again, I missed the band wagon), and a non-fiction book Nickel and Dimed.

If you are looking for book suggestions, I linked up to past books my book club has picked in my lastest blog post.  Check it out!

The biggest stand out books that I read lately was The Help and Friday Night Knitting Club.

Friday Night Knitting Club was very good.  The sequel was awful!

I am rereading The Hunger Games series for the second time!

I read Rebecca when I was in 12th grade and it's one of those books you just don't forget, I still love it!

As for me... I am a weird one and usually shy away from the books that everyone else is reading. Right now I'm trying to tackle Bless Your Heart Tramp which is a nonfiction humor memoir (my favorite kind of book!).   Here is her page on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Celia-Rivenbark/e/B001IGOWDG/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1

Her book titles are familiar to me (especially We're Just Like You...Only Prettier), but I didn't know what those phrases referred to until recently! :)

  • Currently rereading It by Stephen King. One of my all-time favorites. I generally don't like horror, but there's a really great story behind this one.

Tomorrow I fully intend to read the first Harry Potter book. I've just been waiting for a little uninterrupted time. It's on, Kim!

After those, I'm starting the Hunger Games series. It's everything I don't generally like, but the hoopla has me interested. I'm told that there characters are awesome, and that's all that really matters, imho. We'll see!

  • I enjoyed the Secret Life of Bees, although I always confuse what happened in it with The Help.

If I am thinking of the correct book, I did not like The Glass Castle AT ALL. It has the girl who grows up with a crazy family, moves a lot, etc.

Funny, I love The Glass Castle.  I'm really fasinated by subcultures... and having spent lots of time in 'alternative settings' seeing people raise families "off the grid" I've always be skeptical of things... This is a great insight into that.

I always say I'll probably have the most conservative, Republican kids ever.  LOL.

I'm currently reading "The Innocent Man" by John Grisham, a true story about an innocent man sent to death row. I haven't read much Grisham actually, but the story hooked me. I love true crime books so this is caught my attention.

Most recent reads have included the whole "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" series (which I avoided forever b/c I have a weird aversion to reading what everybody else is reading), and I loved them. I also read "Helter Skelter" and "Columbine" - again, both true crime. Enjoyed them both.

Next up is "Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison," then I might lighten things up with "BossyPants" and Tim Tebow's book. :)

I read Basketball Diaries in college in a class called Writers of the Beat Generation.   I loved that class.

I read Nickel and Dimed.  Hotel stays will never be the same.  I liked the waitress.
