Birchmere

I am going with a few friends to a concert at the Birchmere mid-June.  We're going for a friend's bachelorette night out.  It's just dinner and a concert as she is not a partier or a drinker.  Can anyone recommend a nice restaurant close by or around that area?  TIA.

Re: Birchmere

  • There's a really great restaurant right across the street, if you like cajun food. RT's is on Mt. Vernon Ave. It's not much to look at from the outside but it's nice inside and the food is fab! www.rtsrestaurant.net

Further up Mt. Vernon Ave, in Del Ray, there are a bunch of restaurants. Evening Star is one of my faves. It gets really crowded on the weekends and I'm not sure if they take reservations or not. http://www.eveningstarcafe.net/

  • Have you been there before? My BFF and I went to a show last year. I had never been & I didn't realize that it's more of a listening room venue - people sit at their tables for the whole show. You're not allowed to stand or dance unless there's a dance floor set up.

We ate there; the food was decent. If you want to be near the front of the room (for a decent view of the stage), you'll want to get there when they open the doors for dinner, not right before the show. If you're a big group, and you don't get there when they open the doors, you also might end up having to split up, because the tables are big, and seat 8-10 people, but smaller groups take the front end of the table, and later arrivals end up with the back end of the table.

ETA: All that being said, we had the best time and I'm sad I only got to go once before we moved away!

  • I am of no help in restaurant recs as I always eat at the Birchmere.  But the Birchmere is my favorite concert venue!  The small setting makes for an awesome concert and the best part - autographs and pictures with the artists afterwards :) Who are you seeing?

  • Thanks for the recs everyone.  I think we're going to go ahead and eat there.

Burgandy-The bride LOVES the Beatles so we're going to see 1964 The Tribute.
