So, only five days after her first visit with the therapist, Lily started to crawl! She can only go a few feet right now, but we are so happy, and so is she! It's so nice that she can move around a little and get what she wants.
Part of the PT has been hard - The PT told me that I need to stop helping her so much and scooping her up when she gets herself all worked up, so there has been a lot of crying. It's almost like I have to do Ferber during the day, because the PT said she needs to learn to soothe herself a bit better and realize the world is not coming to an end because she has to struggle to move a few feet. (Lily has a really sensitive temperament and gets soooo upset if anything goes wrong or if she can't have what she wants). So, I have to just tell her I understand it's hard work but that I know she can do it, give her a hug (w/out picking her up), and then walk away from a bit. Then come back and repeat. It sucks, but I'm glad to see it's working!
ETA: And, because I'm so excited, I have to share the video. She does get a bit mad partway through, though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZvAdJlJYVA
Re: She Crawled!
Yay Lily! Was she going after a toy that she wanted? The first time Helen crawled, she was going after a cat toy!
It's a fine line between taking care of your child and taking too much care of your child. I think we as parents have to walk that line as long as we have our children in our lives. One of the things I'm starting to work on with Helen now is getting dressed and undressed. It takes so much time for her to pull up her pants or put on a shoe, it's tempting for me to just do it for her. But she has to learn, even if she is frustrating and whining, "You do it! You do it!"
YAY!!! Great first birthday achievement for your folks
it is definitely difficult sometimes to step away and let them do things themselves and get frustrated. I've learned, but DH has not. He and DD get in lots of little spats at dinner time since he wants to quickly feed her and she wants to do it all by herself!
So glad she's making improvements. That's awesome!

I am so excited for you!
But I have to admit that I laughed and cheered for her during the video. Did anyone else see the humor in her crawling after a wallet? Such a smart lady! Putting in the work to get to money. You are definitely raising her right! ;-)
