Attractions/activities in the North Port area?
Hi all -
My DH, our toddler daughter (almost 2), and I will be visiting family in North Port next month. We were wondering if anyone could recommend any family-friendly places/things to do since we're not familiar with the area. We'll have a car, so places nearby (Tampa, Port Charlotte, Clearwater, etc) would be great.
We were thinking zoos, aquariums, etc... We're not ready to take the Disney World leap with her yet!
Any ideas would be appreciated.
TIA!
Re: Attractions/activities in the North Port area?
I'm afraid to say that there aren't many attractions in or near North Port. There are some great beaches nearby though. All of the beaches along Manasota Key are beautiful. You could also look into driving down to Boca Grande for a day. Stump Pass Beach at the end of the island is nice and not too crowded and there are some cute restaurants and shops on the island too. If you're looking for museums and things to do to the kid, it would be worth it to spend a day in Sarasota/Brandenton. There you can visit the Ringling Museum, Mote Marine (which is sort of an aquarium), and the Selby Botanical Gardens.
Heading south to Pt. Charlotte or Punta Gorda, there are Babcock Ranch and the Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary for an outdoorsy, non-beach day. If you're willing to go a little further south to Cape Coral, there's the Sunsplash Waterpark and in Ft. Myers there is the Imaginarium Kid's Museum. There are tons of things to do in the Tampa area if you are heading that far north. Between MOSI, the Aquarium, Busch Garden, Adventure Island, etc., you could easily fill up several days worth of activities there alone.
