It all all weekend but .... My yard is a thing of beauty.
I amended the soil in the new side (mostly shade) bed behind the new retaining wall, moved three hydrangeas from used-to-be-shade-but-now-that-the-tree-was-taken-down-is-now-sun side of the house to the bed and planted a christmas fern, a tassle fern and a painted fern. Give it three years and it will look magnificent.
Next, I dug out a poorly sited forsythia moved it to the sun side of the house bed and gave it a one third haircut.
Then I planted some color annuals in the driveway bed in the rear that has fast multiplying asiactic lilly.
Sadly, I cut down a HUGE over grown Azalia ( I tried to dig it out and resite it but the root ball was too much for me so I stumped it and sent it to the dump) and planted two baskets (one on a shepherd's hook and one on ground level) with bright yellow non-stop Begonia, Alyssum, Calibrachoa and Bacopa. Then I added thumbelina and state Fair zinnia and rosemary in a ground level pot.
Happy, happy, joy, joy - I cut my first peonies and the house smalls fantastic!
The best addition is a Thunder Cloud Plum tree to replace the Dogwood that keeled over from root rot last fall.
I was sweaty, smelly, dirt caked, achy and sunburned but man does this place took FINE.
Re: Our Memorial Day Weekend
Wow that sounds like a ton of work! You're place must look lovely and you just added some well deserved sweet equity. I'm sure all the neighbors are jealous. I wish I could have been in the garden all weekend because the mosquitos are starting to hatch.
You should post some pictures of how it turned out!
Good job! Wasn't it a great weekend? We had a similar weekend and it felt sooo good! It was nice that it was good weather all weekend so we were out there with our 5 yards of mulch, trimming bushes, putting in annuals and some new perennials, rearraning locations on some things and it looks great! And I think I sweated off 5lbs too!!!
Seems like it is going to be a bad mosquito summer - we were getting bit like crazy and normally mosquitos don't bother me.
