Anyone else's house tested high for radon?

We just got the short term radon test results back (I have no idea why our inspector didn't even offer it) and the levels came back at 5.7.  Should we do another test to be sure before having a radon mitigation system installed?

  • I would probably have it tested again.  If you tested while it was raining then you probably got a higher than normal score.  I remember when our inspector tested our house before we closed on it and he said rain can throw the reading off.

  • If I remember correctly, 4 or less is desired value although I think ours was much higher than 5.7. To memory it was definately in the teens if not close to twenty before we installed the system.

It probably wouldn't hurt to have it tested again. If it is borderline though, I probably would install it so that its not an issue for your health or when you go to sell your home.
